I know that they say that the gas tank capacity of our cars is 20gal.

​​​​I wanted to know what my mpg was so I ran my car for 2 weeks without getting gas, today the gas light went on, so I went to costco.

I filled up 14.09gal. at 240 miles. so 17mpg. which is bad. but what the heck I was still supposed to have 6gal and the light went on.

Mine comes on at 15 gal. It just prevents people from running out of gas now a days I guess.

 

The main tank is 16 gallons and the reserve is 4. If you drive for awhile with the light on your guage will suddenly go back up to 1/4 tank. I have personally tested this.

 

Interesting. Will bring a gallon of gas and test myself!

 

I almost ran out of gas the other day. Pulled into the station sputtering in the breakdown lane. My typical fill up shortly after my light goes on is between 17.5 and 18 gallons. I put 19.6 in when I drove in on fumes.

 

that's crazy if it goes back to 1/4.

Long time ago a guy probable beat all of us on the no gas in tank. When he filled up and took a picture of it I was like wow. He only had gas in the lines and almost ran out. It was 19.996 or 19.992. Can't remember but it was that close to 20 gallons

 

I've put 5 gallons in a 4.8 Moto tank before lol. Can't trust the manufacturers!

 

I didn't get THAT close, but I got pretty damn close in my Honda Insight; it's got a 10.6gal tank (10 gallon main tank, .6gal reserve).

 

It's true. I've Done it on my 03 coupe. It went to empty and after driving a mile it went back to a quarter tank, was stuck in traffic and it scared the literal hell out of me! Havent done it in my 05 but good to know that it does that just in case
