Flashing service engine light

While I was driving the service engine light came on and was flashing and then it went away a minute later. I hooked up a code reader and there weren't any. yesterday it started making a noise while accelerating, the closes thing I could compare it to is a leaf stuck in a bicycle spoke, I don't know if it is related

Is the sound related to engine rpm or speed. Get the vehicle up on jackstands and spin all 4 tires by hand.
