ECM or Power Steering Control? Thoughts plz...
A few months ago my husband was using a key programmer to make an extra keys for several family memebers.
All went well until he got to my G35. While sitting in the car with the programmer, he somehow accidentally locked/deprogrammed/froze up my car.
Now NOTHING on the car works. Not even the interior lights... overhead or on the dash that normally come on when getting in the car. It acts like it there is no battery.
Trying to troubleshoot the problem online. I thought was probably an ECM issue. However, the Infiniti dealership diagnosed it as a faulty Power Steering Module.
Im not sure if the problem was accurately identified. Doesn’t the PSM have more to do with driving control and the ECM controls the electronics, such as the lighting and ability to start the vehicle?
They want $1,500 to fix the PSM, where as I can get the ECM repaired/replaced for substantially less (but still not cheap) and was hoping to get input from someone much more knowledgeable on the subject than I before I make any decisions.
Thank you in advance... Your Input is greatly appreciated!

Power steering pressure sensor would cause the engine to bog down in rpm's when you turn the steering wheel, there is no "power steering module" on the V35 platform. Just to verify, you are talking about a 2003-2006 G35 sedan or 2003-2007 coupe correct?
No lights, no power, no nothing is USUALLY a blown fusible link. Look at the positive battery terminal it has a small fuse block attached to it that has 10 or so large fuses in it, that's the fusible link and I'm betting he blew one of those.
Exactly which handheld programmer was he using?
It's possible that the programmer fried the BCM, body control module. That's the computer that controls all chassis functions, it's also the computer that holds the NATS information for the keys. The ECM just handles engine function.
BCM is in the left side foot well, ECM is in the right side foot well.

A bit more info on issue.... Thanks to all for your input!
Oops! Incorrectly put my question in the wrong area of the forums. (Sorry... Newbie mistake)
I have a much loved 2009 Infiniti G35 that is having issues.
I will definitely try the fuses by the battery today. Sounds like that might be the logical next step in diagnosing. It sure would be a very pleasant surprise if it works!!!
My “fixes” most always seem to be quite complicated or expensive.
Hopefully this new year and decade of 2020 will smile on us and allow things to go a bit easier.
The tool he used was n XL 100 key programmer. He is out of town and doesn’t know the brand name.
Thanks to all in advance for sharing you knowledge... It’s greatly appreciated! Happy New Year to all!

I had a Dorman programmer do the same thing on my brothers 08' G35. It erased the FOB and wouldn't continue to program the new ones and bricked the car. Cost $120 at Infiniti to reprogram the FOB's to the car. All 07' sedans and 08' coupe G35/G37 use the same FOB type entry system.
