MREV + 5/8" Spacer or Exhaust

I've been itchin to mod my car some more and been planning on getting a Borla exhaust, but for the money right now I am not sure if I rather wait for the exhaust and get the spacer and mrev now.

Can I use the MREV with the 5/8" skunk 2 plenum spacer. This whole set up will run around 575 + shipping from everythingg35 where as a exhaust would cost about $775+ shipping.

I would do the MREV and matching motordyne spacer. I know Intense had a great sale on the spacers. You will see better gains from that over an exhaust.

I saw the intense one for 269 shipped. http://intensepower.com/aamspaninpls.html
How big is this spacer, it did not say.

So you think I am better getting the motordyne iso thermal 1/2 spacer?

Thanks

Hello,

Nick, Motordyne makes a very good product. Like wilksoner said, that combo he stated is a great combination. The AAM Spacer is a tapered style spacer; it is larger in the back then it is in the front. The exact volume would be somewhere in between a 5/16" and a 1/2" spacer. The AAM spacer should clear most strut tower bars as well. That's just my two cents.

Thanks for the info Mike!

I am just confused on what motordyne offers as far as the Iso Thermal upgrade with Aramid gasket and Coolant Control Valve goes.

Why do you guys choose 5/16 or 5/8, wouldn't the bigger one make more power at $30 more?

In all the testing I've done, the different size spacers make different shapes of power curves.

The smaller spacers make more TQ and a higher "average" gain.
The larger spacers make higher "peak" power.

So it depends on what your objectives are. But even then, the differences are small.

A good example of the differences are posted in the dyno section of our website. Look at the 5/16" and the 1/2" dyno results. Both are very similar in total output but there is a little bit of a difference. The difference is best illustrated in the bar charts.

What you see in the plots is the results on a non revup engine. But in all the testing I've done on the MREV2, the same trend carries over for the REVUP engine when the MREV2 is also used.

I generally recommend the MREV2 with a 5/16" spacer because it produces the highest average gain. But that doesn't mean you can't use other spacers or plenums.

MREV2's are being used with every plenum and spacer mod on the market.

im still confused as to what the mrev 2 even is. I know its the lower plenum, but whats different between the mrev 2 and the stock non rev up lower plenum?

Doesn't the mrev2 basically provide the same thing as a 5/16th spacer on a 2003 non rev up motor?

for performance I would go MREV2 + 5/16" spacer... for sound maybe a decent exhaust... I have non-rev up and 1/2" spacer (with existing mods at the time) gave more butt dyno feel than CAI and exhaust did from stock... I'm not sure how the MD combo will work with stock exhaust but I suspect similar if not same results...

If it were me, I'd get what I can afford now and the rest later... just make sure you plan out what all you intend to have in the end. It will save you from making bad choices if you piece together as you go. In all cases it's the combo of mods that work or don't... some combos work very well and others plain suck! That's why there are misnomers out there that this intake doesn’t do ****, or that exhaust isn't worth cr@p... If you research and plan your project you will feel some gains with each mod you install (I have).

MREV2 is machined for better airflow characteristics...

But it provides the "same" space as what a 5/16th spacer would provide...except its 1 peice instead of 2, correct?
