The car has an AEM intake in it. The dealer said that they do not have the OEM intake to put it back in. This costs 200-300 and then install to put it back to stock setup.

Basically, it is winter here in Canada (Toronto) and I would like to know if I should put it back into stock form in terms of the intake setup.

Please advise

Just bought the car and the AEM intake is installed with the car.
I read a couple threads about hydrolocking etc. Yes i know this is when the intake is submerged completely in water etc and a little pitter and patter of water will cause no issues.

Maybe I am worried too much about it? Well that is why I am asking here for some kind of reassurance

Seeing that the car was bought with the AEM intake on it, i wanted them to reinstall the OEM intake for the winter and stick the AEM one in the trunk so that I can reinstall it back in the summer. They said they don't have the OEM intake anymore. Go figure, guess they want me to pay extra for the OEM one if i wanted it.

Just trying to be cautious here.

aem is garbage......take it off, sell it.......and get a new set up

ok granted that AEM is garbage and that the dealer does not have the stock setup for the car. Instead of spending 300 for a stock air box, can i just simply leave that setup in and be ok?
That is, will it cause any harm leaving that in, in the GTA (Toronto, Canada). Winter season still.

if you really want a stock intake, look on ebay. there is one on there now for about $40. If you're worried about the CAI, I'd suggest selling it and buying a Ztube. $60 from stillen... $50 for a K&N filter or $110 for a popcharger

the AEM is not garbage....any aftermarket intake is considered "garbage" because there are very minimal gains...keep it...and if you are worried about locking you can buy a piece for the intake that will prevent this.

The AEM & Nismo intakes are both the same, since AEM makes the intake for nismo. It's not crap at all & the only way I would remove it & turn the induction system back to stock is if you don't like the sound it makes. All CAI make minimal gains & basically comes down to personal preferance.

My concern is not with HP gains as I dont even count any intake on a car as gains esp for the G35 coupe. It is winter here in the GTA and we had some snow. That is my concern. Am i being too paranoid? Rainy season should be coming up soon too

Does you intake have the foam insert between the piping going to the plenum...if it does, then you basically have the purgeing piece installed. Basically if your front end was submerged in water it would spit out of that piece instead of it going directly into your engine. If you didn't have it installed on the CAI, I'm sure someone around here has a piece laying around they would sell you.
