wow. i cant beleive so many people have tried it. the same thing happened in my A4, i knocked the key and it shut off, then had to turn it on while driving and the same thing as you had. its fine now though.

its dumb to want to do this though. and if you have a 5AT, do neutral drops instead, theyre less dangerous.

 

for me this is constant. i get it till i restart the car properly. Just to be clear, i am rolling in 3rd with the car on> push the clutch in and turning the key to the off position> turn2 clicks without starting the motor> letting the clutch out for a smooth bump start.

 

Tried it again and it was stupid. It doesnt backfire past 5k and isnt that noticable. This "trick" sucked

If you still have the cats on, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO THIS!

Ask ANY mechanic, you can cause an explosion that will internally rip your cats to pieces and even blow them clean open. The catalyst cannot put up with pure raw gas hitting it.

I did this with my Mom's old Station Wagon when I was in HS. Blew the muffler clean off the car!

 

Here is a video of the car backfiring. We did this on the dyno to see if the car would have a different map when it was backfiring. The car actually had the same A/F ratio and put down the same numbers. They were baffled.

when your car is warmed up you rev it to about 2000 RPM then turn the key back one click then back on and it should do the boom bang pop pop if you wanted to try it. I know people that blew a coil pack when doing it so beware .
