I am used to being in the honda world, where Velocity stacks are king at making the most power! But i just bought a G35 and want to apply what i know about intake systems to my G35, which is using the best known Velocity stack in the scene and trying to make that work for our cars!


There is one problem though, that is the MAF sensor box that is right after the intake pipe, because of that i dunno have to attach a Velocity stack to that box instead of the stock surround??

Also how big is the MAF box? Is it 3inch or the Z tube??

I want to stick one of these with the filter on for driving, and without when its track time.



So how do i get the MAF box to work with this type of attachment with a coupler?


Is there some kind of MAF housing i can buy?

Or do i even need it because i techncially havent taken out the intake to look completely, just inhooked the intake and wiggled it to look inside. I am guessing it is just a square filter pressed against the hole where the MAF sensor connects to the box? Am i right?

 

You can either use a later model Z stock intake (come with a V-stack)or buy an used Stillen or JWT filter systems (comes with a 6" velocity stack)

But i want to use this specific V stack, its proven to beat anything on the market!

What size is the opening? And how could i get this specific filter to work without having to dish out money for other intake kits first??

 

Proof? Link? I don't see how. The Stillen stack opens up to like 6" and necks down the the oem pipe size.

 

sorry for my ignorance, but you stated that you just bought a G. So why can you pop the hood and measure? all you really can do is attach this to the sensor tube. Which i think has a small lip where it connects to the box. Reality is, you'll end up exposing the filter to the engine heat, which would negate any additional gain this "king of the filter" you're wanting to use. There's still a lot of obstacle for the air to travel through, which might negate this "awesome" stack's potential. Z-tube, k&n drop in, call it a day.

If you can get yours to fit AND build a good box around it, go for it. If not, don't bother. Unless this thing is somehow proven to have some advantage that one like this stillen doesn't have

This is the website. They beat out alot of filters in thier testing on the honda scene.

Its only 100 bucks for the filter, coupler, and Velocity stack. With a adapter to the MAF box this would come out cheaper than the Stillen intake.

Where can i get it an adapter that comes with the Injen intake? SO i can fit the coupler around it.

 

i'll take a shield oem with k&n over an exposed superstacked what have you anyday of the week. Perhaps on the 4 banger which doesn't produce the level of heat our VQ produces, it might work. I think heatsoak is a bigger concern with our v6 than velocity stack.

 

Hmmm... Good point! I am thinking of possibly modifying the box that is stock and retrofitting in this stack and filter.

Haha. I'd love to accomplish this just to be happy i did it. Im a DIY'er type of guy, i've done motorswaps on hondas forever, i want to bring some of that to this car.


Well looking at it right now, i dunno if i can incorporate a velocity stack/filter inside the stock airbox where the square filter goes.

I would have to add in that adapter that i am looking looking for which is pictued above. Although i could cut a hole in the stock airbox location and have the filter sit in there.

Any gains made by the velocity stack would be negated by heat soak from losing the OEM air box. BTW, the 06 G35 air box also comes with an OEM velocity stack, so just pick up one of those and run it with a k&n. If you really want to DIY, then pick up that velocity stack, and custom mold it into the OEM airbox, then enlarge the OEM airbox to clear a cone filter and you'll have the ultimate intake IMO. I've already planned to do this, and found all the parts, but have just not had the time to do it.
