Update. I put in my oem 03 airbox with an used Z filter I had lying around. It's of course quieter but I don't really notice any better/worse performance. Then again, it's still in the low 40s here. I have a new filter that I'll throw in as well as the K&N panel.

FYI, I also had an oem 03 Z airbox sitting there. From what I could see, I think that unit would actually fit into the sedan. But the airscoop is in the totally wrong place. So other than the interesting fact that it "could" fit, I don't see any benefit from running one. The filter replacement would be alot easier as you lift the filter direct up w/o having to fandangle with one side of the airbox. Also the Z box eliminates the resonator thing down below.

Jeff, that's good to know. Although I'm upgrading to the 06+ revup box soon, I'm cringing having to finagle with getting the box out and putting in the new one simply because it wasn't as plug and play as it would seem.

That stupid air hole on the bottom lining up was what drove me crazy when I had to reinstall my airbox after accidentally removing it while installing my ztube/MD Spacer this past weekend.

We live and we learn right!

Oh yeah Jeff, how has the car been driving with the 03 Z box and Crawford Plenum Spacer the past few days if you don't mind me asking?

I added the Crawford plenum when I had the Stillen installed. Noticable gains everywhere and a nice deep sound. (also have the Borla TD exhaust)

I've only driven the Crawford + oem intake 1 day (morning commute actually) and it was with an used 03 Z filter I had lying around. I wanted to make a worse case test of sorts. I'll try a new oem filter also.

It's difficult to tell the difference though. Especially when the sound is more muted vs the Stillen. But I wanted to drive with the all stock oem airbox before getting into my V-stack experiment.

the Z air source is much better than the G - but I don’t know how you could incorporate that into the G... if you were able to fab something that could draw from directly behind the grille it would be great - but from my recollection I don’t see that happening... I'd have to look at it in person.

the only "possible" benefit I see the OEM giving over Stillen is temps - and I'm not even sure that will change much... I have an OEM box sitting and waiting - when I'm done with my engine bay dress-up project I'll run both boxes and data log intake temps with Cipher... we will see if there is a benefit.

The Z air source is right in front vs along the radiator. But when I looked down there for options, the Z hole is right in front of a few ac lines. Not only that, it's directly in front of a bunch of stuff that wouldn't be easily removable/relocated. (it's directly under the G scoop but under the plastic front end support.)

the only real option I could see is to seal off the oem Z hole and go from the bottom. (ie.. make a hole at the bottom of the Z box, remove the G resonator thing and draw air from next to the frame rail) (ie.. right next to where the stock airbox mounting tabs connector to) (on the frame rail). Even then, it's sort of a stale and dirty area. I can't really see it being better than where the G gets it's air from.

Today I threw in the K&N panel I had. It was pretty clean when I took it out. The throttle response seems snappier than with the old panel from the Z (which didn't look that dirty but who know how old/miles it had on it) So Hydrazine's theory about the paper filter losing flow when dirty is holding up so far.

I have a brand new oem paper filter I'll try next.

Next will be the V-stack mod (not the rev up version though)

Jeff, what's the V-Stack mod without the 06 box? Please explain!

Thanks in advance

Not saying anything until I get to test fit. It might actually be too tall

V-stack I just got measured in at .727" as compared to this measurement of the Rev Up V-stack. For a difference of about 5.8mm.(approx 1/4")

Now I'm sure this one I got is definately larger than the oem one but it's a touch smaller than the real RevUP. Odd that Nissan designed all these different length units.

I'm still going to try it though.

Jeff, pleeeasse keep us posted. I want to see how this acts. Are you going to reset your ECU right after this addition or let the car figure out how its going to react to the new stack

Plan is scrapped. At least for now. I thought the mounting base was the same bolt pattern as the G/Z but it's not. I might have another idea but hang on.

But I'll have pics of a more traditional way soon.
