I thought this guy was the one doing tests with more than one brand of parts, if not then it will be only his car that is a sure thing if it proves good. Many times too much mods are over the top in less you do internal mods like I did with American cars, I had one very fast car due to how the mods were all done to compliment each other and made the 500 plus pound feet of torque and ran as well as it did. I would post all I have done and the results but some clown would have something stupid to say. All I have hopefully will do well on the Dyno next week, we found a new guy and the two cars will be done. And best to the guy with your illness, I know all to well about that crap!

To add to this, You can add all the bells and whistles of tuning, mods etc. you can only get what the motor has to offer, if I was not married with all the bills I have, I would do an intake, heads and plenum of my own design to make the motor respond to all this in a positive way. If you understand how a motor responds to what you do, you can get what you want from it.

Post it. I'd read it (and understand it). But as you must know, there is alot less meat on the bone on Nissan engines vs domestics. Even the totally redesigned LS1 motor (cira 1997) responded very well to cams/headers/tune. Probably because it wasn't close to achieving a good output/liter yet.

Like I said there a few clowns as I expected, Ill think about but probably just PM you since your knowledgeable about motors, I had a feeling it was not a heavy duty design because of all the guys with problems. The block of my Olds weighed more than the Nissan motor. Now all I am looking for is a good reliable, reasonably fast with nice handling car that looks good too. If I come into some real bucks I will build something nasty.

Are you foreign because i am having trouble with your sentences and im not a grammar ****? What Jeff is saying is that our blocks are tapped on n/a power. Nissan got what they could out of a vq engine. Without some sort of f/i the car wont respond to bolt ons. Its nothing like a domestic and i have a mustang thats built so i can speak on it. Theres nothing you can do like it or not even with money.

Why bother? For the amount of money you'd spend, you could get into something way quicker? The heads on these cars already flow enough. There isn't a whole lot left with the cams. The OEM intake can easily handle way volume than the OEM engine can ingest. There isn't a whole lot left with the exhaust.

There are two ways to gain a decent amount of NA power with these cars.

1) High rpm breathing
2) Displacement

To make a 350whp/270wtq NA VQ (revs to about 7800rpm) is going to take about $10K+ in engine work (not including install).

1) Cosworth intake plenum $1200+
2) Cams/valve springs $1200+
3) Longtube headers $1200+
4) Some sort of tuner plus tuning time $1000+
5) Exhaust $800+
6) Built VQ40 block/pistons $3500+
7) Large capacity radiator $800+

Figure another $3,000 for install/labor. That's a lot of coin for something that might not even drive very good. I'd much rather buy an E46 M3 for $20K and add a $6K SC and be making a reliable 350whp.

Something nasty

I may be on the crazy side but not that much to dump all the bucks you say to only get that little gain. I am done with it, just getting the re-flash and tune on the dyno. Then all the service for the mileage and just enjoy the tunes and the ride.

gains have been proven between mods for the most part....what i would really like to see is difference of the mods AFTER a tune. 5/8" spacer may show higher gains after a tune but hasn't been shown. Etc. etc.

Sasha (the guy who made awesome long tube headers) also tested the intake and found that over 5000 RPMS there is a lot of room but lack of plenum volume hurts that performance.

To say that the engine is tapped-out on power just isn't true - however cost effectiveness to create a beast isn't likely an option.

btw it was tested on gabes stroker that cosworth isn't good for NA, it lost like 10-15 hp compared to mrev2+spacer.

installed my nismo cams this weekend, very busy. still haven't gotten around to the write up. sorry guys.
