Kinetix HF Cat Check Engine Light On

Just got my Kinetix HF Cats on...... i drove the car for another 20 miles NO check Engine light comes on.....so i thought everything was fine. I turn off my car, go in my house, then after 2 hours later, i come back out, turn on my car, nothing..... 5 mins into driving, the Check Engine Light comes ON.
I read on the forum that the Kinetix HF cats are not causing a check engine light to come on....... what do you guys think?
my otehr question is, i know putting on HF cats is not legal and will void our warr. if i take my baby to infiniti, what happens? and is there an infiniti dealer in Sol. Cal. sympathetic to our mods and not give us a bunch of sh%t? pls help.... this check engine light just bothers the heck outta me..... thanks.....

Try following this procedure. I'll go get the list of codes for the pre 10-03 build dates for you to cross-check the code against.

From my350z.com
Note: If using a Greddy E-Manage w/ timing harness make sure you unplug the timing harness from the E-manage so you don't risk damaging the coils

To read the codes...

1. Turn the car to the ON position for 3 seconds
2. Completely depress the throttle 5 times in 5 seconds (once every second)
3. Wait 7 seconds (no throttle)
4. Fully depress throttle for 10 seconds until SES light starts flashing and release
5. The SES light will flash 10 times slowly to let you know its in diagnostic mode
6.Following the 10 slow flashed it will show you the code with fast flashes (fast flashes...pause...etc.) so code 303 for example would go (3 fast flashes, pause, 10 fast flashes, pause, 3 fast flashes, 10 slow flashes) The 10 slow flashes signify the end of the code.

To reset the SES light...
1. After doing steps 1-4, fully depress the throttle for 10 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition to the OFF position
here's how to read it:

10 slow blinks, pause
2 fast blinks, pause
10 slow blinks, pause
8 fast blinks, pause
10 slow blinks, pause
10 fast blinks, pause
repeat

2 fast blinks = 2
8 fast blinks = 8
10 fast blinks = 0

which would be code 280 (this is just an example)

Doing steps 1-4 takes almost dead on timing so i would suggest a stop watch of some sort. if the CEL doesnt start blinking you have to start over.

just go to kragen and get a odbII scanner and check what the code is.. you can also erase the code.. if the code comes back, than you have a problem.. but if it doesn't.. than its just a false alarm

This happened to me. I consulted the owner's manual. It states the Service Engine Soon(SES) light will come on in certain conditions, including an emissions condition. If it's solid, that is. It also states that you need to just drive it a few times, and if it stays on, *THEN* take it to the dealer.

I have the same cats. When it happened, I pulled off the road, checked with the manual, and continued driving. After about three days, it did not come back on. That's been about a month now.

Plug in their scanner, read the code and the Voltages of your Air/Fuel sensors and tell you what happened. Odds are you're OK and they'll just reset the code.

It recently happened to me and considering I'm not exactly bone stock, I was afraid that my engine was toast.

HF cats are legal- thats why people get high flow cats instead of test pipes. EDIT- just noticed you're in CA, not 100% sure about you. everyone else is fine with them. Will your dealer hassle you about them? possibly, I know some that would. FWIW, Ive had the kinetix for almost 2 years without any problems at all.
