Pro-1 Headers, Y-Pipe, Exhaust?

Anybody have any info/experience with this system? The headers are only $299 on 350zforums.net, seems like it's too good to be true. Tried doing a search and couldn't find anything.

I got the full setup. Headers, Y-pipe and Exhaust. I also got Crawford HFC. First of all it screams w/o the silencers. Power wise, there is definately an increase after about 3500. But with any open exhaust system your gonna lose some torque. But all in all for the price, Id definately say go for it if you want something loud and mean.

sorry bro, I did it all at one time, got a deal on all the parts and a deal on the install since it was all done together. Youll prob feel a gain but not as much as if u changed the exhaust, because the exhaust piping is smaller then the header and y-pipe piping. Also if you ever gonna change your exhaust, think of what you might get in the future because a y-pipe is only good with certain exhausts, the borla, stillen and a few other dont use a y-pipe, so if your ever gonna change it think ahead. Also I think they said the gains ranged between 5-15whp.

headers (and cats or test pipes) will make far more a difference than the exhaust itself will. The stock exhaust setup is actually pretty good; the biggest sucky parts are teh stock headers and cats.

But that's cuz those are true dual exhausts right? I'm gonna stay with single.

Yeah, that's what I heard so I can't see myself spending $1000 to replace a pretty decent exhaust when for the same amount I can get the headers, cats, and y-pipe

So far, the exhaust plan is either strup or pro-1 headers, crawford kitties, and either pro-1 or IM racing y-pipe

base on my research, I wouldn't do the y-pipe......it doesn't seem to add much when combined with those two, plus you'll need a reducer to get it to fit on (like $20, but it's just more a pain in the ***)

Hmm, from what I saw when you do headers and cats people are of the opinion that it's a good next step. I agree with you about the adapter that has to be welded in, then if I do decide to add the rear section it's gonna cause problems. Maybe I'll just start with the headers and crawfords and see where that takes me.

i figured i would chime in since your plan of attack is exactly what i did

first i got a set of Kinetix cats... they freed up some hp and made the car sound the same, but alittle louder. those were decent but never fit right for me, and when they eventually broke (in their defense, their issues have been fixed) i went to...

TopSpeed/Pro1 headers (same design as DC, Nismo, Strup, Alphawerks, etc, etc, etc) combined with Crawford Cats, and a Fujitsubo Y-pipe. the thing with exhaust setups is, all the components are dependant on each other. if you have a very high flowing header, coupled with the high flow cats, they're going to hit a restriction when they meet the rest of the exhaust, and they're not going to be performing to their full potential. the stock exhaust is decent, but there's always room for improvement.

after i ran the header/cat/y-pipe combo with the stock exhaust for like 8 months, my stock muffler began to make a rattling sound every time i floored it. somebody told me that the higher flowing components upstream were too much for the packing in the stock muffler, and was breaking down the sound deadening material in there. i dunno if that is true or not, so take that FWIW.

finally, i will tell you that with the headers, high flows, and the y-pipe, my car was running alittle on the lean side AFR wise, in the 14's. i'm assuming since i added the midpipe back exhaust and a plenum spacer since then, it's only gotten higher. if you're planning to fully swap the exhaust (headers all the way back) i would get your AFR checked on a dyno.

interesting......I wonder if you hadn't had an aftermarket-y what your A/F would have been (only reason I wonder is because I've read that the y-pipe has the biggest impact on leaning it out, when combined w/ headers and h-f cats....headers and h-f cats supposedly arn't enough by themselves to have a signifigant impact on the A/F

I'm selling Brand New Topspeed Pro-1 headers for only $240 shipped. So why pay $299 for them?

Just shoot me a PM if you're interested. Feel free to check my Trader Rating on www.my350z.com
