Paintless dent/ding removal

Dammit, I just washed my 1 mo. old black g35 this weekend and noticed a door ding in the middle of the passenger side door. I know door dings are inevitable, but not after only one month!! argggghhh!!!

It's only half an inch aross but I think it sticks out like a sore thumb since 1) the car is so new and shiny and 2) the doors are so nice and flat (i.e. there are no door guards running across the side of the doors like some cars).

So now I'm seriously thinking about professional paintess dent/ding removal.

1) anyone have any experience with this? will the door panel need to be removed (i really don't want anyone taking apart the car)?
2) approx how much will it cost?

Yes, I have had it done on my Infiniti, Volvo, and Lexus.

The door panel is not removed. They use special tools to go in-between the window sill and exterior metal.

If there is no paint damage, they will make it look like new.

The cost depends on the shop, but I have never paid over $120.

Highly recommended!

+1

Have used PDR several times, with a good person the ding just vanishes. And as noted the panels don't need to be removed.

I will also add that dings in the middle of a panel are usually easy to repair, so you should expect excellent results.

My dealer offered ding removal as an added service. Ended up adding about $10/month extra to my lease but there is no limit to the amount of times I can use the service. And they'll come to my work or home to remove the dings. Door dings are a huge pet peeve of mine so I figured why not.

Get the ding removed. I am extra careful about where I park my car I usually park in areas that give me plenty of room between my car and the person next to me or in spaces where no one else can park near me. I don't take up 2 parking spaces though... That's irratating

Yeah, I am careful as to where I park. But even if I must park in close quarters, I am very careful not to dent another person's door - if need be, I open the door slowly until it gently touches the other person's car and then I squeeze my way out. I agree you shouldn't take up two parking spaces - you may not get a door ding, but rather a long key scratch. =P

I called up a local shop (they offer mobile service) and they quoted me $125 for a whole body panel (up to 3 or 4 dings) and an additional $70 for a second body panel.

I think I will wait until the door(s) accumalate, god forbid, more dings/dents and get it fixed then. Currently, the $ to ding ratio is too much.

Guess I have to live with it for now. =(

Yeah, there are a bunch of dent pro (or similar businesses) around in any town. I've used them before and it's very cheap....roughly $80-150 per ding to repair. Call around and haggle a bit. From what I've seen, they do a good job with simple door dings.

Do they come to your home or do you go to their shop? At $75 Cdn, that's cheap! Here in CA, it's a minimum of $75 for a tiny ding, but I'm sure they'll never quote that price even for the littlest ding.

In Houston it's $75 for the first one, $40 each after that, and he does come to the house. Pretty cool.

I was lucky with my previous car. I was careful about where I parked it, but not extremely careful; i.e. given a choice between parking spots that were close together, I chose the least likely-to-be-dinged spot, but I didn't go out of the way to park at a far distance. I was very lucky. I had the car for 7 years and it didn't get a single ding. Hopefully, I'll be just as lucky with my G35....

That price was going to their shop, I never asked about house calls.
