you'd have to run a relay if you plan on doing a rewire since you don't want ppl to be able to just walk up to your locked car and pop your trunk with that button. So you probably want to run it off the dash trunk button but you're gonna need to find a wire that feeds 12v when the car doors are unlocked.

No we don't - the relay we are using is a special latching relay. It switches sides when power is applied to either ends of the relay with a small magnet and a coil. We use the 12V signals to switch the relay to either 1 side of the coil or the other depending on whether the doors were locked or unlocked. This way we don't need any 12V constant power. We just complete the circuit from the factory trunk release using the new trunk button wire. Works like a charm.
