I had problems today installing this kit on my 2005 coupe. The silver rod was too long so I had to cut it short. The bracket took longer than usual, but it eventually fit. At the point I got the square brass piece with the 3 screws to go on the silver rod and lock wire, it would not budge when i tightened the screws...as if something was preventing it from locking/unlocking. After trying different ways to fix it, I finally gave up, putting everything back to stock. The locks only go bad when in excessive heat. I will put this little project on the side for now.

I did this DIY yesterday so if anybody has any questions let me know. The doors both now work flawlessly!

Total time spent 3 Hours - this includes time spent to grab pizza & beer

- The rod provided in the kit will be too long (you will have to cut and file down the end
- The bracket I made actually using a piece of sheet metal so it was easily pliable, but still sturdy enough to house the actuator
- I didn't use female bullet connectors, running your wire through the open end up the supplied bullet connector from the actuator will work fine, run it through and crimp it down, save yourself a trip to the hardware store

what make were they.I would go with the biggest aftermarket auto security company there is and that's DEI. I'm just guessing that you heard of Viper right. Just one of many brands they make

Just so everyone knows, you can bypass the hardest step in this process of trying to get the L-lock bracket to fit in the little hole. There is a much easier and less frustrating way to install the last few steps.

Once you have mounted to actuator on the bracket, fastened the bracket to the plastic tabs, and have tested that the rod fits through the plastic tab and the hole you have drilled into the door handle and lock housing and you can put on the three screw bracket (supplied with the actuator you've purchased). Simply unscrew the three screws that hold the door handle and lock housing and remove it (pulling the rod out of the housing at the same time.

Now take the three screw bracket, go to your car door, and attach the three screw bracket to the L- lock bracket by sliding it into the groove and securing it with the two screws (be sure the the L-lock bracket is pointing down when you attach it to the three screw bracket so you can put it in the physical locks notch).

Now put the L-lock bracket, with the attached three screw bracket, in the door handle and lock housing, making sure the L-lock bracket goes into the provided hole in the physical lock. Once that is complete reattach the housing to the door panel, you will have to be next to the door with the door panel. Slide the rod from the actuator through the hole that you drilled in the housing, and slide the rod through the three screw mounting bracket hole, then tighten the screw, and you're ready to test.

This eliminates the whole pesky task of trying to push that L-lock bracket into the little whole while holding up your door panel.

Hope this helps someone.

With the method in this video, would I still have to drill holes into the inner door handle housing? Too bad the video doesn't really show the final steps

No you don't. Watch from 4:00 again, it tells you to cut the cut the wire from the door handle housing to expose the "core wire" then you just connect the rod with the coupler and the "core wire". This is the only hard part.

My driver side just went bad, gonna give this a try this weekend.

Is that kit supposed to come with the U-clips? I bought my kit from ebay and it didn't come with the U-clips. I tried the installation anyways and the oem core is too thin to fit in the larger clip. Can the clips be bought somewhere else separately? Thanks

I tried doing this myself and couldnt do it. Found a company here in SoCal to install and fix both doors for $200 flat. They even offer a lifetime warranty. Check them Out @ USActuators.com
