I've never done it but I always use rattle can paint and the finish behind the lens is good enough for me. Since they are sealed, you won't get dust building up on it.
I recommend using a machette to cut the seal

^Well, that depends entirely on your race/ethnicity... If you're Latino, yeah, sure... but if your Asian, a sword might be a better choice... if you're white, a rusty hatchet... if your black, a Glock (that one is tricky to pull off)
My Hindu friends... I have no idea how to peacefully protest a headlight lens off, best of luck there.
Ok, I'm done being politically incorrect (for the moment)
On the point of wax... if you're going with a gloss finish, sure why not. I've actually had pretty good success with waxing a rattle-can paint job, provided it gets a day or two to cure.

Just finished mine, thanks for the DIY Papa! Also, looking through the thread, I saw that you use PlastX on the headlights every week, I wouldn't recommend that. Basically you have a topcoat protecting the plastic, and everytime you use PlastX you are abrading that away. Once the topcoat is gone, the headlight will yellow and that's when PlastX would be necessary. If you still have the topcoat, just wax and clean it and you'll be good
Couple tips:
- 9 minutes at 210 made it easier to get the headlights apart, Still took some muscle.
- I used 3000 grit sandpaper before the last primer coat and color coat. Did a great job of removing lint/dirt while still preserving the paint as much as possible.
- I used a directional space heater to speed the drying time between coats and compressed air to clean before spraying a new coat. Worked like a charm
Anyway, great DIY, thanks again G35Papa!

Lol. I was never able to bake mine open so I just swapped them back and will settle for a lens restoration for now. I do plan on just cutting them open somehow if I do take them back out to modify
[QUOTE=dvandriesen;6543010]Just got done doing my one and damn you really need to use some force to get these things open. Thanks for the DIY i think they turn out great.

was there a reason why u decided to mask off that area rather then paint it too?
