Winter Driving

I am considering buying a new G35 coupe. I have one concern, Buffalo winters. Does anyone out there live in a high snow area and own a coupe? How does it do in the snow? Are you using factory all-season tires or did you purchase specific winter tires? I look forward to hearing from anyone.

Thx

There is a lot of people that own the coupe that live in snowy areas. Your best bet would be to get a set of dedicated snow tires/rims. From What I heard the car behaves good enough in that setup. Do not try to ride in the winter on the stock 18s!

Re: Winter Driving

many posts on this topic.
if you have the summer tires (6mtc) you don't want to drive this in the snow without replacements.

aside from that, it's all up to the driver. i've had RWD cars that have handled better than FWD. also, some drivers are better in the snow than others.

Re: Winter Driving

I am looking now for snow tires and wheels. I do not want to use the 18 OEM's in the snow!

Re: Winter Driving

i have a coupe and i live in cleveland so i get a fair amount of snow. Snow tires a must and i would not recomend getting 18 inch snow tires i would buy a new wheel like 17s or somthing and get a good snow tire. The coupe is deffently manigible in the snow but u have to be carfull and never take it over 3 grand RPMs or your back will break loose on the snow. If u look under my name u can see pics of my 17s that i put on in the winter. Over all i would say its very do able as a winter car.

Good luck

Carlos...
Winter wheel package looks great. I'm in NYC and last year was useless in snow (18's / sport). Approx how much was the package wheels / tires... I know I've got to get those 18's off the car by Thanksgiving!

Re: Winter Driving

You can get a good set (tires/rims) on tirerack.com for about $1200

Re: Winter Driving

Whenever I try to find a setup on tirerack it says they don't have anything that fits the 6mt coupe's setup. Any ideas?

I know I could use that wheel/tire calculator sticky at the top, but is there any tire/wheel package for 17 inch rims that would work on the 6mt coupe on tirerack? Or should I just try giving them a call?

Thanks

Re: Winter Driving

I got a '94 ford probe gt with a full set of snows for $1300. It'll cost an extra $50/month to insure it. Since the g's stock rims aren't good in the snow then maybe a snow car's the way to go.

Plus you'll have to something to drive to the unemployment office if you ever get laid off...

Re: Winter Driving

Bought 4 Bridgestone Blizzak tires and rims from Tire Rack for about $1100 - mounted, balanced, w/ all hardware. 17" rims. Arrived in a week. They made the accomodations for the tire stagger. Not the exact size tire I have on the car now.I have an AT. However, the guys that are renting cars sounds like a good idea. I may have tried that if I had thought of it. At least I have winter rims and hopefully the tires will last more than one season.
