Make sure you get the higher SEER rated systems, there's a tax credit/rebate for getting one. Two friends of mine at work recently had there's done. I think for around a 3 TON unit each of them spent around 5-6K. 3 TON is for approx. 2000-2200 sq ft depending on ceiling height.

yeah, for a 14+ SEER rating you gotta spend the money. You start saving money after like year 4 or 5 because of the lower monthly cooling costs associated with the high eff. units.
