FYI:

The sedan HR has a different Y-pipe, the whole exhaust design in the HR Sedan (07+) is very different from the previous generation.

Not sure if you've actually performed the upgrade yet, but any idea if installing the HR headers on a DE engine is easy? Or do you have to start removing everything around it for clearance and access?

just installed my HR pipe last night, not quite sure if it gave me gains but the car doesnt feel as sluggish. my car feels like it has a little more pep to it, especially on the freeway at higher RPM.

overall i like this mod and recomend it.

i also did my oil change i went from factory syn blend to castrol full syn, with bosch oil filter.

i also painted my magnaflow muffler gloss black.

did everything in about 1.5 hours with two jack stands. i only lifted one side of the car to take of the stock y pipe.

Got my HR Y-Pipe on this afternoon. Zack (zackt69) and Dave (OH6 G35) did the install for me....thanks guys! Initial impressions after driving 10 miles or so is that I can definitely "hear" a difference. Exhaust note is deeper and is a lot throatier, particularly above 4K. Don't want to comment on performance impressions yet until I drive it a bit more. I'm also going to get my car dyno'd in a couple of weeks from now, so I'll have hard data to share with everyone. Just dyno'd my car for the first time yesterday, so I have a baseline. Thanks again guys for sharing this info related to the HR Y-Pipe.

A little update, you don't need the damper pucks. I took mine off for the heck of it and it turns out that removing them reduces vibration. Apparently these devices were used to quell the odd and nasty vibrations reported for the higher revving HR motors. They're not needed for the smoother revving DE and if anything, the dampers appear to create some NVH on the DE. The pucks remove easily with a 12mm socket. They're only torqued on with about 25ft/lbs. They're heavy little things too. Over 1lbs each. They're like lead

DaveB,

You put on 350Z headers yet? Got a pair on the way. Still looking 07/08 cats.

I did make a video, but it sucked because of excessive wind. I'll make a new one this weekend.

Not yet. I'll probably source out a set over Christmas, but probably won't install until the spring. I'm not looking forward to the work. Keep us posted when you get your on. I really want to know if it's easier installing OEM headers vs aftermarket. I would assume it's easier and access to the flange nuts is far easier. The driver's side looks easy, but the passenger side looks hard because of that water pipe on top.

Here a few videos.

30% throttle, 1st and 2nd gear

From inside the car, full throttle, manually shifting, traction control on (see video 3 on why I left the TC on)

From outside the car, full throttle, TC off, 1800rpm launch, spin all thru 1st and some of 2nd, too much wind to capture much sound

quick question,

the rubber bushings on the new part, do they attach or press up on to anything or do they just float only attached to the downpipe? and i have an 03 g35 coupe 6MT and am wondering if it would directly bolt on.

thanks

They do not attach/bolt to anything. As DaveB said, you can take them off as they serve no purpose on our cars. There are only 3 connections/flanges totaling 6 bolts.
