Question Can I use Engine from 2003 G35 and Put in 2008

Hi, recently My Mom rear ended someone, not that bad, but bad enough to where the car is pretty much totaled, BUT, the engine is good, no issues, and I found a 2008 G35S that has a bad engine, so my question is, would I be able to easily swap these engines and get the 2008 running with the 2003 engine. I know there's a difference is horsepower between the two (sedans), but would that mean that the engine, wiring and all that would be different?

Please do let me know as this is very important.'

Thank you all for at least taking the time to read this.

I moved your thread to the appropriate place. Please read the forum headers though, the one you posted this in originally clearly stated in big red letters "No car questions".

Hi, thank you for the reply. Would there be a lot of different changes that would need to be made, is that why you say "No"?

Are the engines designed completely different?

I found a good deal on the 2008 G35S that needs an engine as it's now knocking, so was just hoping this would be an easy alternative by taking the engine from the 200 and throwing it in the 2008........but I guess not??

Could you please tell me approximately how much it would cost in parts, and labor (approximately) from someone I know who works at a mechanic shop who could rebuild the 2008 (he's out of state, and won't be back for 2 weeks or I'd just ask him).

Any help, thoughts, and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Again, thank you for your initiial reply!@

Different engines, different transmissions, different wiring harnesses. The list goes on and on.

It is not financially or practically feasible.

In 2008 there were two possible motors that were used. Sedans got the VQ35HR while the coupes were equipped with the VQ37VHR, the 2003-2006 sedans and 2003-2007 coupes were equipped with the VQ35DE.

None of the engines are interchangeable.

Hi @cleric670@gmail , ok, first off, the engine in my mom's '03 G35 Sedan, well the car itself, isn't the older one which people call the 'doggy door' (the one with ugly handle, in my opinion). Anyways, because of the horsepower being the same on the '03 and '04 (Sedans at least as it says Sedans have 260 and Coupes having 280), I was assuming that her engine could only go into an '03-'04 Sedan, so with what you've said, does that mean that her engine could go into any '03-'06 Sedan, and without having to do any modifications?

How about her '03 engine going into any '03-'07 Coupes, again without having to do any modifications, would that be possible?

Thank you!

The engine in the 2003-2006 sedan and 2003-2004 coupe (if equipped with the 6MT) or 2003-2007 coupe (if equipped with the 5AT) are completely interchangeable. If you do have the doggy door then it's a simple matter of deleting the mechanical fan clutch and adding the idler pulley that was used for anything after mid-2003.

Those are the VQ35DE non-revup equipped cars.

2005-2007 coupes equipped with the 6MT got the RevUp engine which was still a VQ35DE but came with different equipment on the heads that allowed for exhaust cam timing as well.

2007+ sedans came equipped with the VQ35HR, completely different.

The same VQ35DE non-revup also came equipped in the 350Z, the M35, and the FX35 across various years.

Check out this thread, it has pictures of how to spot the difference.

https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...gine-pics.html

The rev-up has the extra cam actuator solenoid for the exhaust cams, as well as additional cam phase sensors on the opposite side of the heads.

The "other" VQ35DE that was used in the Altima/Maxima has different provisions for motor mounts and is easy to spot as well. The RevUp never came in those vehicles.

It is not interchangeable with the G/M/350Z/FX, the block anyways.

@cleric670@gmail , thank you so much for this!!! Initially I thought I could only search to find a 2003-2004 Sedan or Coupe, but now knowing I can try to find a 2003-2006 Sedan (and the 2003-2004 Coupe), is and has been so much help! Thank you VERY much!!!

P.S.- I don't know what's going on with that 'Banned' by your name, but I tell you, if you were actually banned, I truly believe the G35 Driver Forum would be in for some trouble as so many would lose the help that they seek(ed), which in itself would surely upset many! Thank you again!!

If you're looking for just the motor try car-part.com, also hit up your regional Japanese importer, they always have low mile VQ35DE's in stock since it's such a common engine. Only we few with the rev-up have a hard time finding replacement engines.
