1/4 Mile Drag Racing!!!! Sat Dec 1st
uh, i know. that's why i said an open face would be fine. but again, just make sure it fits well. please see post #253 and the original post....again, an open face helmet is fine. i say this because it is cheap, which is what klubbheads wanted (as compared with the full face) and you would only face winds for a few seconds (as you both have already pointed out).
i was just commenting on your comment on why someone needed a helmet that was so fancy. remember, the fancy helmets are "fancy" for a reason...they last longer, are more comfortable (usually), and lighter (a HUGE advantage). but as you said, as long as it's rated within specs and standards, than it's fine.

For my purposes, I am looking for a M2005 helmet at the very least. I have seen some very nice helmets rated M2005. Obviously the SA2005 helmets are better and offer much more protection but I just can't see spending $150+ for just a few runs down the 1/4 mile. Thanks for the help fellas.

I never "commented on why someone needed a helmet that was so fancy"... I simply said, "who cares how fancy it is"... and for CASW Street Legals, really you don’t need anything fancy period.I'm not here to bicker. And I fully agree that certain events would necessitate a nice helmet - just not as it pertains to this thread.
If (big IF) I get into the 13s with my measly AT sedan, I'll buy the cheapest helmet needed to comply with track rules.
Anyone that wants something more, so be it.

Besides that M2000 or M2005 is acceptable if you are running 13.99 or quicker. The flame retardant jacket rule only applies to those of us that are FI. It's a new rule. Any vehicle with a non-OEM turbo/twin turbo/supercharger/NOS must have at minimum a jacket that meets SFI Spec 3.2A/1 rating. If you are NA, this doesn't apply.
