Officers base their assumptions off experience. My experience has told me the man who has been washing his car for 7 hrs straight is a dope slinger. I'm assuming but it's justifiable to search him base on experience.

Who's talking about a gangster? Why did you have to bring that into topic?

We're talking about modified vehicles. Not gangsters

Sorry LjN, the way most of us taxpaying citizens here would see it, for offficers to accuse someone with a modified car of racing would be just as ignorant and immature as the kids street racing. That bust was purely for profit, and illegal (added to make what they are doing sound less like harrassment) street racing was their justification - just like how we're in Iraq for the oil and "The war on terror" is our justfication...

Does the badge give someone the rights to deprive an innocent person of theirs?

If you guys were really trying to get rid of street racing, then you would raid the races with undercovers armed with video cameras, etc... not raiding car meets... as for the fix-it tickets that were issued... I can't say anything about those...

nice insurance propaganda. These numbers don't show the number of licensed drivers or vehicles on the road. I'm sure the percentage of vehicle (and motorcycle) deaths are trending downward.

Passenger vehicle deaths:

2000 - 32,109
2001 - 31,938
2002 - 32,724
2003 - 32,166
2004 - 31,750
2005 - 31,455
2006 - 30,476

Motorist deaths:

2000 - 2,829
2001 - 3,123
2002 - 3,187
2003 - 3,641
2004 - 3,904
2005 - 4,460
2006 - 4,697

You know I thought that too. I suspect that there's more to the story that "warrantless searches" at the Rivierside crackdown. Since I wasn't there, I can't comment on that.

LjN_728,

Your comments have not fallen on deaf ears. I, for one, can appreciate what it is that LE is attempting to do in the big picture. You need not defend your position and issue rushed words and/or have your words twisted on you.

I am not a street racer, nor do I plan on becoming one. As such, I have no fear of being cited for street racing activities. I do have window tint and an aftermarket exhaust and I am well aware of the consequences, which these items may potentially bring upon myself. If at such time, I am pulled over and cited for the said, i have no one to blame, but myself. I am prepared to fully accept the consequences for my own actions.

The thread will stay alive as long as it stays civil

Discussions are always good until people start bashing other people. Nothing out of hand...so far.

It's always good to hear both sides of opposing opinions.

My department nor I took part of this crackdown. Therefore I cannot speak on behalf of the department. That was be idiotic of me to do so.

As they say, "You are innocent until proven guilty". If you truly believe that you are a victim of police harassment, you must bring it up to the Chief of Police.

Will you give me a call on my cell when these illegal races occur because I don't have the slightest clue when it goes on.

1. police officers have no fault in this
2. they can care less if u are guilty or not, there is a court room for that
3. They are always going to follow what they have been told by their higher ranks

City/state is the one who is exploiting these kinds of operations and with excellent excuses to get money for those officials. The only annoying part is when those police officers take advantage of the situation and abuse their authority time to time.
