Driver injured in fiery crash in Cypress
By JOHN McDONALD
The Orange County Register
CYPRESS – A motorist was critically injured in a fiery crash that damaged a utility pole and left more than 100 homes in the dark, police said Tuesday.
Police were investigating whether Darrell Arce, 25, of Stanton had been street-racing in his late-model Infiniti G35.
The crash occurred at about 10:10 p.m. Monday near Ball Road and Barcelona Lane, Cypress police Sgt. Mark Parker said.
Witnesses told police that they saw the Infiniti and a tan vehicle, possibly a four- door Nissan, weaving through traffic at high speed near Ball and Knott Avenue.
The Infiniti was headed east on Ball when it hit the utility pole and a traffic signal stanchion and burst into flames.
Arce was taken to UCI Medical Center, Parker said.
About 100 homes lost electricity for about an hour.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at (714) 229-6651.

i heard about this crash from my co-worker. being the only g35 at work and amongst my friends i got numerous calls to check if i was still alive. since i drive a black g and am always heading down to the OC alot. hope this guy is ok. 25 and fwy racing with a "tan four-door nissan" (probably an altima or maxima)...what i'm wondering is why even bother racing an altima or maxima with the G? where's the challenge?

The first line says the crash occurred near Ball Road and Barcelona Lane, which is one block west of Walker Street. The next line says witnesses saw the Infiniti and a tan vehicle weaving through traffic near Ball and Knott which is like 1-2 miles east of the crash scene. So if he was heading east on Ball Road when he crashed, how did the accident happen 1-2 miles West of where the witnesses said they saw them racing? If they were traveling east on Ball Road at Knott, then they were going away from Barcelona Lane and towards Beach Blvd towards Buena Park and Anaheim, not Cypress.
