Quote: Update: I failed my 2nd OC test last week, Car was low 3 qts in 1000 miles. My service rep said he would talk to whoever is in charge of handling these situations and get back to me on Infiniti's decision. Got a call today from my rep and he told me that Infiniti declined to replace the engine. I am pissed . What do you guys suggest i do next because this is getting ridiculous.
Call Infiniti Customer Care for a resolution.
How many miles do you have on the odometer?
Did they tell u why they're not gong to cover the oc?

Quote: to all of you who have failed your OC test and received a new longblock......

have you noticed HORRIBLE gas mileage initially??? I'm getting ~10mpg city driving....and I'm not shifting over 4000rpm....what gives?

Also, after the 'break in' period....what is normal oil consumption??

thanks for your input!
My V2 motor has 12K on it currently (I bought car used with new V2 motor already in it). Once it hit around 8K miles on the new motor and changed the oil, I noticed that it no longer consumed oil. When I first got the car with the new motor in it, it was running on full synthetic, it only had about 7K on the new motor. After the first 2000 miles it was about 10 mm low. After my second oil change, I had them put in high mileage basic dino oil and it only burned off 2 mm of oil in 4K miles. I would suggest that people run dino oil for the initial break in period. I expect more oil consumption when using a full synthetic oil, even though many on here say that it doesn't matter. I just think the rev-up motor does not like synthetic oil. It seems to run better on regular motor oil. Of course, I am no expert.

My gas mileage is 22-24 mpg with 60% highway 40% city usually. I do not baby the car but I also do not run it to redline very often. I usually shift around 3-4K rpms. My old G35 6mt sedan got similar gas mileage to my coupe. 10 mpg is very very bad. Hope that helps.

Push my oil to 4.8K mi. Very low OC rate in the beginning. As the oil got older with more miles, OC rate increased much faster after 3000 mi.

My used oil analysis (UOA) will disclose whether last oil just couldn't handle the normal pounding of the V2 or my revised 're-manned' V2 metallurgy build is going South. Yes I said re-manned. My high quality UOA numbers with professional commentary in past don't lie, but dealers do by saying it's a brand new long block.

OC = 29mm/4800mi. ~12K mi on V2.

And thought I was done with this crap geez -_-

do not under the hassle to replace longblock. My M-35 was drinking a quart every 1000. dealer sealed motor and rechecked at 2000, car had cosumed 1,5 quarts.new long block in less than a week.

Ya I make sure the moter spins once up to temp and in the mountains you can just about quarantee some oil consumption, especially downshiffting on the long down hill runs.

I just got a call form my consumer affairs rep and she told me that Infinti isnt covering the replacement because of the exhaust and intake. I asked her to provide me with proof that these modifications caused the problem and she said i have to talk to the dealership about that because she doesnt have anything. I asked her if she was familiar with the Magnuson-Moss act and she said no so i had to explain it to her and she said she will be mailing a letter of denial for the replacement. She also said that there is really nothing else i can do because that is Infiniti's final decision.

I heard a similar thing from my dealership. I just asked them directly when I bought the car to clear up any confusion. However, dealer installed aftermarket parts from Nismo and Stillen will not void the warranty on my car at my dealership. Too bad you didn't remove the parts before you went in for the OC issue. Is it possible to remove the intake and exhuast now and take your car to another dealership and try again?

I called another dealership and spoke to a another rep there and told him i have an exhaust and intake and want to start an OC test with them and he said those mods were no problem. I think i will have to start this OC test all over again with this dealership.

Sweet! Good luck. Removing the intake would still be worth the effort before you head in and get it checked out. It only take a few minutes to remove it and put the stock one back on...unless you don't have the stock intake setup anymore. And if all goes well, be sure to report that first dealership and maybe even Infiniti Motor Corp to the BBB. That is what I did to Lexus in Charlotte. Good times.

I'm petty sure that having a aftermarket exhaust is in the Infiniti Nationwide Maint history system. Meaning if you take off your exhaust and go back to stock they will know about the exhaust, and whatever mods you had before.

The dealer who gave me my new VQ35 didn't care about the exhaust. However, they did tell me to remove all other aftermarket parts before starting the OC testing, just to cover their a$$e$.

the dealers here in SoCal is cool with my exhaust. i just took out my fujita intake just in case.

Tustin Infiniti did my OC test but those bastards said they wont turn in my OC test coz they dont have receipts of my oil changes.Even if the car is burning 17mm on the 2nd test 2000miles. Im the second owner

luckily i took my car to riverside infiniti to give them a shot yesterday at 12 noon i talk to this service rep and he said he'll see what he can do about it.
After 30mins of leaving the service rep gave me a call and he already talk to the previous owner and to infiniti corporate and he said infiniti said if theres no sludge on the engine the theyll cover it.

took my car in today at 8am left it there. Then at 1pm my service rep called me and he said they checked the engine and its clean! No sludge! thank god! He also called infiniti and they OKed the swap!!!! Wohooo!!!!!! i was so excited!!!!

hopefully i can get my baby back next week!

So for you guys experiencing this hang in there! Also you can use the procedure they did on my car. Take out the valve covers and drop the oil pan to check for sludge

1k Update:

1k OC check on ""new" V2 with regular dino. Down 16 mm. I'm confused some peeps say this gets better with break in time, others claim thier OC appears to be worsening with time ? I'm still babying it for beak in (no hard driving/downshifts, etc).
