Edrodre, I'm glad you see where I'm coming from. Realize though that National meets of any kind are complicated. It's just the nature of the beast. That's why there has to be a small board of people to organize it, people that are good at organizing things. Janik has obviously done a good job of getting lots of people interested in this, but a forum this vast, won't just magically self-organize. So if it's going to happen, and I really hope it does, we're going to need people to help organize, to help it actually come to fruition.

Welcome to McDonald's may I take your order

Yes, I'd like a milk-shake

What flavor would you like

I'd like Chocolate

I'm sorry but we can't give you chocolate, you can have strawberry or vanilla

Then why is chocolate on the menu

We just want to give people options (but they cant have chocolate)

That makes no sense, why have chocolate on the menu when I can't order it

We want to give people choices (that they can't have)

But the majority of people prefer chocolate

Yes, but they will have to make sacrifice and deal with strawberry or vanilla

Okay, I'll have vanilla

I'm sorry, we just sold out of vanilla and we are now closing - come back again

-------------------------------------

For those that don't get it - its an analogy to the poll and the last part at the end means it aint gonna happen.

^ Yeah, I think we all get your point. But even in your example, there are only three choices of flavor... Someone had to decide that Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla were the best options to give people, so even if I wan't coffee, mint, or tuna flavored shake, I've got to decide between those three.
Besides that, organizing a national event with the potential for hundreds of people to attend is just a tiny bit more involved than ordering a milkshake at McDonald's. More like deciding which one flavor every McDonalds should have.
It may very well be that Las Vegas is the very best place for a national meet, but 72 people pushing the Vegas button on a forum poll doesn't tell you that.

really? Gee, I wouldn't know

How about you explain to the people that don't seem to realize that... I think several are a little green as to what it would take to pull this off.

Dude you're completely right about that. In fact, I would go so far as to say that MOST don't have a clue what it takes to pull off a national event. That's why we're going to need some people from regional clubs, or people that have put together large events to step up to the plate if this is ever going to happen. One thing is for sure, this does have potential. The poll has only been up for 11 days and already has 183 votes. That's 183 people that have said they would be interested in going to a national meet (somewhere )
I think if this were a little bit better organized and supported by an actual committee, and advertized all over G35Driver once a date and location were settled on, it could be huge.

I didn't expect so many Cali people to come in here and vote for that because its close and convient for them so they can party etc.

I put it up for interest, and before i realized that it would just get swampped with people from Cali wanting to go there.

Honestly, it is a terrible place for what we are trying to do here. Lots of people, hot as hell (for standing outside looking at cars) and VERY far for people to drive that want to come and meet others (IE that dude in Maine).

I almost think we should make another poll without Vegas and try something else. Places more centrally located and less of a variety of locations (like i have listed). I dont wanna call anyone out, but voting for a location because it suits your needs, when it doesn't suit over half the other peoples needs, is kinda selfish.

Yes i know. It is in the poll. So why shouldn't people vote for it? Well when i was reading the thread for locations, i saw a few people chiming in for Vegas so i threw it on as an option, and didn't account for the many Cali people that frequent these forums and will vote for Vegas.

It was my bad, i am sorry. Can we look at the results from a different perspective here though? I'll drive anywhere regardless. But i'd like to get more than just west coast people together and thats what i think quite a few of us are trying to do, and it just WONT happen if your demanding people to drive like 3000 miles one way...

I think we need nfsp1 to head this committee.

I say forget about making another poll and do what nfsp1 suggested. Let's get a committee for this event consisting of people from different areas (Florida, Ohio, Cali, Texas, New York, Chicago, Canada, Georgia, etc.) and see what the committee can plan up.

Like I said before a poll is pointless because as long as the location is somewhere in the middle and there is more than 300 g'z people coming everybody would find someway to come. Not to mention all the z's that would also come. This has potential to be huge.
