do a search for the service manual on the board here and download it. if you go to the AV section its on page 319. i don't know how to post it or i would do it for you.

here are some pics of the right rear of my trunk. to be honest, i don't really see anything in terms of an open connector or somewhere to connect a camera control unit. there is that white thing that is kind of shaped like a gun, and it has a small connector connected to it, as shown in the pics. i'm not sure what that is. i tried to follow it and see where it leads but i can't really tell. i THINK it goes across the trunk to the other side where it's then leading into the actual trunk door, which makes me think it might have something to do with the camera, but i really have no idea. so here are the pics of the right rear of my trunk...

...and now, these are the pics of my trunk door. here too, i don't really see much. a few wires leading to the reverse lights, and a a wire leading to the chrome trim which i'm assuming is for the trunk button, but again, i don't really know. i didn't see any stray connectors hanging anywhere. here are the pics, let me know if you guys can confirm anything from these pics..

That is the fuel door lock module, not an extra connector.

i guess i don't have the necessary connections to do this then. damn that sucks, i woulda guessed that infiniti would at least have the connector there in all cars with nav and just not install the camera and wiring for it to work.

SUB! I would like to do this as well on my X 2008.
Nice pics markk132
I will show you a pic tomorrow, I think I have found an extra unused connector behind a plastic trim in the trunk...Maybe it is for the camera.
I have the non-navi with premium pkg.

for some reason ive had trouble posting here all week but i do have updates!

to summarize: in a base model we will not be able to hook a camera up to the pin on the back of the LCD, just doesn't seem to work. i suspect the nav model screen has different internal circuitry to autoswitch the inputs.

my garmin idea seems to be running out of steam too. the LCD is too complicated and i cannot get a proper pinout to run down how to get the image signal out. seems like i'll be going with a car PC for my navigation purposes.

Hey guys. I did the video bypass mod to my 08 G35 and installed the GVN53 directly to the to the AUX cables. Worked like a charm. I've been searching for an aftermarket backup camera solution and recently came across a really nice aftermarket GPS and backup camera (with guidelines) setup on the G37 site. This GPS utilizes your non-nav monitor as a touch screen. I think they apply a transparent film to the monitor. It's a pricy solution, but worth checking out. See this link if interested:

P.S. The first message in the above thread contains a link to a youtube video showing the finished product.

Brian M - thanks for the heads up! ill check out the link. im actually shying away from the gvn53 due to the price and lack of a touchscreen input. its a great product but just alot of cash compared to doing other options.

im still on track to do a car-pc with the garmin software, should be ordering everything this week and ill get the PAC VCI to interface the backup camera and the nav to my stock screen.

so i wanted to give you guys an update on everything...

i'm an experienced electronics user, and well versed with schematics and pinouts and modifications but unfortunately i just could not get that garmin lcd idea to work. so.....

i broke down and ended up ordering the PAC VCI NIS2 for my backup camera, the main reason being that i've also started building a car pc to run garmin mobile pc software. ill be using this as my primary navigation system so the PAC VCI will allow me to interface the pc and the camera to my stock LCD. i'm installing a 7" touchscreen overlay onto the stock LCD and interfacing via usb to the car pc also. i don't really intend to use it as a media center, mainly just for garmin mobile and ill tether it to my blackberry or wifi so i can get traffic updates, weather, points of interest, etc....

concerning the backup camera, i have decided to not use the stock camera. despite the fact that i wanted a factory appearance i have found a slightly better option (at least for me).

http://www.coastaletech.com/LOCKPICK_CAMERAS.htm

this company makes a plug and play camera (composite output) that also has the distance overlays/guidance markers already built into the camera. my coworker installed one in his dodge charger last weekend and i was able to see it in action at a 4th of july bbq. the distance markers are fairly accurate and the picture is excellent. even though i prefer the clean look of stock this is a feature i think is very helpful and almost a "must" if you're hooking up a backup camera. i guess i'll have to figure out what to do with the stock camera i bought now...nards....

and finally, i had mentioned that i ordered a parrot mki9000 and a grom audio ipod adapter. i finally got my parrot quick connect harness so maybe i'll put it in this weekend if we get a break from the heat wave. i'm really not sure where to mount the screen yet because i want to put it somewhere inconspicous so i don't have to constantly remove it in parking lots....

as for the grom ipod adapter, it's a great product. it has a USB 2.0 input and ipod input. you can take a 32gb flash drive and just pile it up with songs and use it in lieu of an ipod. it displays the song titles and all that jazz also. the only downside: it deletes the satellite radio!! so unfortunately i had to take it out and put my iSimple gateway thing back in since i use my xm radio about 90% of the time i'm in the car. eventually i'll go to the stock integration or try the USA spec revision thats out.

so that's it for now. once i put in the parrot and the backup camera and car pc i'll start another thread. i'm driving out to foxwoods casino on the 23rd for vacation so my goal is to have everything installed and fully functioning by that date.

cheers!
Bob

hey remmy, I am really interested in that camera for the low price. Can you take pics of your install (how it's mounted outside) and maybe a shot of it in action. When you shift in reverse do you just hit the aux button to pull up the camera view?

So to confirm, the grom interface will work on the v36 g35 with no navi/Bose? I've been on the fence about picking one up but wasn't sure if it would work on the non-navi equipped sedans.

i will absolutely take pics for you guys. i am still waiting on the camera and pac vci to arrive, hopefully ill get to it all next weekend.

with the pac interface i do not have to hit the aux button, it will automatically display the camera image on the stereo screen, which is why i chose this option. wiring it to the aux is quite easy, and cheaper actually, lol.

CORRECT, no navi, no bose, works fine, you just have to be willing to give up your xm. there's a thread over in the audio section right now of another member who just ordered one....

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-aud...uinea-pig.html

and i really do think its a great product, very easy to install, and it has a much smaller control box than the iSimple gateway, and a smaller harness which is important since you don't have much room at all behind the stereo to install stuff.

and i could have sworn they have a version that works with the nav but i can't remember.

and as a quick update i installed my parrot bluetooth yesterday, ill start a new thread about it. and the net-top PC i ordered for my carputer-navigation unit came, still waiting on my solid state hard drive though so i won't install windows on it til around tuesday.
