Noticed a Strange Groaning Sound - Tires?

It started to be felt - yes I can feel it - during the latter part of the winter. Had about 18K miles on the Goodyear RSAs. It seemed to be felt only when turning. The dealer checked it 2 X. They said the rear disks were slightly warped; they resurfaced them. Groaning type sound still existed. Now seems a bit worse. Dealer says its the tires. The 08 loaner with 20k did the same. Can it be the tires would emit this type of sound and "feel" from the pavement to the car ?? with less than 25K . The tires have been rotated and balanced every 5K. I still have some thread - its not to the wear bars... I've had Goodyear Eagle RSAs on other cars, they do wear like crap, but look at the tire placard and the thread wear is very low... Is it the tires?

I've seen so many stupid things caused by tires. I am not surprised anymore. You did good with your tires. I usually get 13k out of them.

Why are the tires wearing out so fast. I figured I'd get 40K+ out of my stock tires, assuming I didn't spin them everywhere I went.

I think I have the same problem with my Bridgestone Potenzas on my 2007 G35S. I can hear it at medium speed but mainly as I go slower and come to a stop. But I hear more of a "woov woov woov woov woov" sound than a groan. I just got the brakes replaced so it's gotta be the tires. I have 18K on them but they seem to still have plenty of tread. Wondering if I need them rotated and/or balanced?

I've got lead foot so can't complain. More city driving doesn't help either.

whtbst: Right On with the exact description. I've driven many many cars on many different tires (SOB, I'm getting old.....) never remember "feeling" this.. Dealer confirmed, it is the tires which are not warrantied. Well I guess I will start a venture to research what replacement tires I should buy. Any good alternatives to the Eagle RSAs?

almatti: darn, i was afraid you'd say that, i was hoping it would be a warrantied part not the tires. oh well. i only have 10 months left on my lease so i'll probably deal with the noise until then. hopefully it doesn't get any worse! i'd recommend bridgestone potenzas, they performed awesome for me up until about 16.5K miles, that's when the groan / "woov" noise began.

wht: me too though with RSAs at about 18K.... I may buy my G at lease expiration in Oct 2010, if they offer me a deal. My mileage is at 19.5K. I thought I was going to do more mileage; had the lease include 16.5K per year, but I was transferred to Manhattan Office for my company vs. driving to LI office from Westchester County in NY. I'll have to get new tires anyway before lease turn in - they charge you for worn tires....unless you lease another Infiniti and "work" that aspect into the deal.

There are a ton of threads on this, search for Tires in the title (wheel / tire forum) and you'll find them. I'm going with Michelin Pilot Sports for my next set, this will be replacement set number 3... Don't buy Goodyear F1s BTW.

damn, really? i had no idea that dealers charged you for worn tires after the lease is fulfilled! that's crazyness. if this is true then i might as well buy new tires now and enjoy them while i can.

whtbst: Just double check your lease terms for "wear and tear" and see what that encompasses. If the tires are at wear bars, some companies will charge you for new tires. Don't know if Infiniti Financial does though?
