New to the community - Bought an 08 G35X need tires feedback
Hello peeps
Well traded in wifes 03 Maxima SE Titanium for an 08 G35X w only 15.5K miles on it, she just loves it. I have not really driven it much as I have been sick, uggh but I will be
Anyways I am looking to get some tires to replce the stocks which I see are not the greatest. I live on West Coast of Canada at elevation and will definitely get snow.
I'm considering a dedicated set of winters and will choose from whats below
Falken Eurowinter HS439
Hankook iPike 409's (had these on Maxima they were great on a set of MB 7x Alloy 16" rims)
My bigger decision is what I should replace the AS tires with and if the
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus would be good enough to skip on the winters
I have no clue how this car will handle in snow and my wife agrees we don't want to slide into something because the rubber did not cut it.
Are there any other AS tires to consider ,feedback appreciated from those driving an AWD G35
Thanks
CK

I really have no interest in moving to 18" wheels, it is just added cost not needed for us. I have an RDX riding on 18's limited options but it is 235/55/18
I am just looking for feedback on whether those who went the route of Michel Pilot Sport A/S Plus found the tire to be good enough for light snow. I have no idea how this vehicle will handle in snow.
Was kinda leaning towards dedicated rims and snow tires now and buying new AS in the spring..... Just trying to get some feedback.....
thanks

I bought the REDESIGNED EAgle GT's a few months ago after doing a TON of research. I've been happy with them.
Negative on Michelins
Cisco Kid,
I had those Michelin's on my old Saab, and wouldn't recommend as an "all-season" replacement. I'm actually about to purchase a similar Michelin tire tomorrow as a dedicated summer tire. They might track OK in light snow, but I wouldn't rely on them. That being said, they'll blow your mind for summer driving, and work quite well in the rain.
If you're considering a dedicated snow tire, my recommendation would be to stick with either the Blizzak WS-60 (or whatever the new version is) or the Michelin X-Ice/Pilot Alpine tire. I've driven the Pilot Alpine extensively, and it's a brilliant tire that works great for every day driving as well. I've heard it's not quite as good in the deep stuff as a dedicated Blizzak, but on everything else it blows it away (dry performance, gas mileage, quiet ride, durability, etc). Since it only snows on occasion where I live, I prefer the Pilot Alpine - your location may dictate something different. Just stay away from anything Dunlop or Falken.
Good luck with your search. I'll be curious to hear your results.
**Just to clarify the title, I mean "negative on Michelin Pilot Sport as all season tire"

thebonafortuna, thanks for your reply. I ordered a set of Falken Eurowinter 439's on some MB 7x 17" rims all from discounttiredirect.com along with a new set of rubber for my RDX, I got a great deal I could not pass up for all 8 tires and 4 rims. So for the winter tires I am fine and good for 2 years of winter driving.
My plan was to buy the Michelin Pilot Plus A/S just recently since we had such a mild winter here in Vancouver BC that I pulled the winters off and put the original stock rims w tires on. UNfortunately my wife got a nail in one tire and I was forced to buy tires the same day and we settled on the Falken ZE912's since they were the best bang for the $$. Tires cost mnore in Canada but even if I had ordered these out of the USA I would have only saved $125 after taxes and install so I just got them the same day.
We have had the 912's on our previous 03 Maxima SE, they are excellent in the rain and above average in the dry but not near the Michelin and perhaps some other A/S tires but for the cost they are great. They do wear out a bit quicker but then again it is my wifes car so I am not too worried about her pushing it to the limits , I know that I can though when I do drive the car on occassion.

Anything is night and day over those RSA's. Those things suck.
You can easily get away with a decent AS tire year round but I'm really happy with my decision to have a dedicated setup for Summer and Winter seasons.

I second that on the RSAs - very soft in the corners. For winter tires I was using the Dunlop Graspics this Winter and they were very good. For summer tires I am planing to replace the RSA's soon with Hankook Ventus V4 or Kumho Ecsta SPT both of which have pretty good ratings.
