I just got my 07 G35x last weekend and noticed this morning that there is a bulge (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S). The tires look brand new, couldn't be older than 6 months ~5k miles. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from (BMW) and they said that it wasn't noticed in their inspection and that it appears to be caused by a pothole since there was a mark on the rim. If I had noticed it earlier in the sale (2 day warranty), maybe they could have done something. So, basically, they're saying it was my fault some how. OK. I called Michelin, they said if it were caused by manufacturer defect, they would cover a % of the replacement (depending on tread depth).

Three scenarios;
1. It's a small bulge, roughly the size and depth of the back of a teaspoon. Should i just keep an eye on it and avoid potholes with this tire at all costs, but still drive on it? (you are not liable for your advice in this scenario, i understand the consequences)

2. Just replace it, take it to be inspected and by chance it'll be a manufacturer defect.

3. Since the tire is like $225 in my area, consider "matching" the tread with a more economical tire (Suimoto/Falken/Goodyear)?

A buldge on the sidewall (if its there) is bad news, get it replaced

normally bulges only happen when you hit something.....scuff marks on the tire will be evident. replace it.

What do you guys think about matching tread patterns with a different tire brand?

I am in the same situation. I bought these continentals used with 90% thread left. The weird thing is I curbed it by accident, but it wasn't bad at all. A few days later when I lifted up the car I found a bulge on the inner sidewall of the tire and not the place where I curbed. Anyone have any idea why it did that?

It was probably there from before (a good reason to be VERY careful when buying used tires!). I would definitely replace it too. At least with 90% tread left, your replacement will blend well with the remaining tires.
