Service Engine Soon Light

Ever since I changed my fog lights, my Service Engine Soon light has been on. Do not notice any difference in engine performance or how the car feels.

Any ideas?

if you go to an autozone or somewhere like that, they can pull the code and tell you what is causing the SES light. it could be nothing big but it could be important and ignoring it won't help. at least then, you'll know how to deal with it. My personal opinion is it's coincidental that you did the fogs at the same time and it's not related.

Yeah, I think it's probably coincidental. Personally, I think everyone should own a code scanner. Not too expensive and you will get a lot of mileage out of it.

Reset your ECU.

Here is the method...(beware, it takes many MANY tries as this needs to be very precise).
  1. Turn on the ignition to on position (do not turn on the engine)
  2. Wait ONLY 3 seconds. (This is the most critical step. For me, I started counting the time as soon as I turn the car on ignition position which you press the start button twice without depressing the break pedal).
  3. Push and let go of gas pedal all the way 5 times within 5 seconds.
  4. Wait 7 seconds.
  5. Floor gas pedal all the way for 10 seconds at which time the CEL would blink.
  6. Release the gas pedal all the way.
  7. Immediately floor and hold gas pedal all the way for 10 more seconds.
  8. The CEL should blink at a faster interval by now. Release the gas pedal.
  9. You are done.

Well ... I've only got 1900 miles on the car and I know I had to remove the air cleaners to get to the fogs so I wasn't sure if maybe I did not make proper connections when I buttoned everything up.

I noticed the light come on as soon as I started it up after I put everything back ... know for sure that the light was not on when I pulled up my driveway to start the work.

I'm not convinced that there's no connection here ...

understood. reset the ecu and see if it comes back. BLUESLATE has the ECU reset covered, or you could just pull the neg. terminal of the battery for 30 min and then put it back on... but the pedal way is easier.

And plus, you don't lose your seat positions and radio presets.

Tried the ECU reset literally 20 straight times .. no luck, got tired, will try again tomorrow.

Never noticed any lights blinking ... all dashboard lights remained lit solid while trying the sequence with the ignition in the ON position.

Didn't think my timing could be that bad .. I am a drummer after all

then just pull the negative battery cable, let it sit for 30 min. or so and put it back on, that's a full system reset. all you need is a 10mm wrench or socket, takes literally a 1/2 second to do it.

I tried this the other day and it worked nicely. The one part that can cause confusion is step 3.

3) Push and let go of gas pedal all the way 5 times within 5 seconds.

The 5x is within 5 seconds, so you have to wait for that 5 seconds to expire, then wait the additional 7 seconds in step 4. If you don't see the CEL flash, don't bother with the remaining steps, start over. Use a watch to time everything.
