It could be just the print on gauge, or the needle calibration. If it's just that I can live with it (actually I wish I could forget it, would help keep my speed down lol). If it affects the odometer tho, there's a problem. And unfortunately whatever the problem is, the fix is to swap the cluster...not cheap.

Next time I'm out for a long enough drive I'll have to remember to reset the trip and use the GPS on my phone to track the distance, to see if the odometer is affected or not.

UPDATE: so the dealer called today and said that this was a know issue for 07 models but not 08's on the bulletin they get from tech department. He called and verified that it also includes 08 models as well and the fix is an updated cluster. He also said that if the speedo is off by 7.7% that this will correct the spedometer issue and the odometer is NOT effected by the spedo error. Now if it's off by more or less then the odometer will get recailabrated to correct milage. I'm taking the car in tonight. I'll also compare gps km to odometer km to verify it's in proper working condition? I'll post results when all is done.

SOLVED!!

So the cluster was back ordered for a month. Brought it in yesterday and got the new cluster put in. Fixed the 7.7% speedo error. Now it reads perfect -1% witch is normal. The tbs # is ITB09-042A if anyone is interested. Should be able to get it fixed without warranty. The process is before they (dealership) get the cluster it's calibrated with your km at headquarters then sent to the dealer to install.
I told him my km on speedo a day before I brought it in and was at 60,580. Put an extra 90km till it got to the dealer (60,670km) Got it back at 60,580km.

Do you have the ICC? I had mine replaced too, but the ICC still reads the 7.7% off when the cluster and needle now read correctly.

My '08 G35xS also has 7% speedo error at 100kph (Canadian vehicle). The error is consistently around 7% at higher and lower speeds. Interestingly, the trip meter is acurate to within 1 to 2% when checked against the measured kilometers on the 401. The average speed indication on the LCD display between tack and speedo seems accurate. In other words, the problem seems to be only in the mechanical speedometer. I read somewhere that there was a recall on the instrument clusters but can't find the article. Has anyone seen it?

Check this post a few above yours. It's a tsb, not a recall so if you're out of warranty it might be difficult to get the dealer to do any work under warranty. Have you ever reported this problem to your dealership?

If you just bought it, make sure the dealer understands that you believe the incorrect speedometer is a safety concern (which it is imho). More likely to get the ball rolling if the dealers sees it in this way instead of just a customer with some minor annoyance.
