Front Tire Size

Have you guys noticed yet that our front tire size (225/50 18) seems to be quite rare. I did a quick search, and only came up with the stock tire. With such a low treadwear rating, I think that we will all be in the market for new tires soon. I hope that other manufacturers come out with a tire in that size sometime soon.

Any thoughts?

just go with a 245/45 or 235/45 tire instead.

Good idea -- 245/45 would give you the same sizes in front and rear

Maybe not such a good idea.. The ABS and TCS/VDC systems work off the sensors at the wheels. By changing the front tire size you are affecting the ratio between the front and rear tire rotations. While it might not be enough to throw a code, it might not provide accurate information to the ECM when called for. That tire size was chosen for a reason.
I would at least find out the margin of error the system can take. just a thought.

a 245/45 would fit in that margin of error. You are in creasing width while only losing a small amount of sidewall. The margin of error is something like 3%

The problem is that the front rims are only 7.5 inches wide. That’s a bit thin to put a 245 on. The tire is ~ 9.6 inches wide so the tire (side walls) might look a bit funny being angled in to fit a 7.5 inch rim.

245/45 will not bulge on a 7.5" wheel. There are numerous people that put that size on the 05-06 18" sedan sport wheels. 245/45 would be the widest you could go on that wheel.

I put 245/45 on my 06 sport rims and they look pretty good. Here the link to the pics:

You could consider a 235/50 front and 255/45 rear. If you check the Tire Rack web site and search by size, using the "different back tire size" feature, you will find a half-dozen or so tires in that combination. Most (but not all) show 7.5" and 8.5" rim widths within the acceptable range for the 235 and 255 respectively. The rolling radius is about 2% larger for both front and back, so the VDC won't know the difference. Of course the speedometer and odometer will read about 2% lower than they do with the 225/245 combination.
