iForged Nightmare, Advice Needed

Ok I've had my aeros for a few weeks now and I love them but when it comes time to clean it's a whole other story. The polished aluminum lip is great at pickiing up dust and other dirt and sucking it in. Todays cleaning involved removing all 4 rims and getting down and dirty on them with some mothers aluminum polish and even still there are some sopts that look bad. I cant handle this type of upkeep. I know driving the car in the rain doesnt help but I dont have too much of a choice when it comes to that.

Is there anything I can do aside from getting rid of them? Can I possibly get the lips clearcoated so they dont pick up as much grime? Are there any cleaners out there that work good and I am just using the wrong stuff. I dont know this sux the rims look great on the car but I cant just keep the thing on display. HELP!!! Thanx Guys

Re: iForged Nightmare, Advice Needed

1. do not sell them.

2. do not clearcoat those lips.

3. stop using mother's on such fine aluminum...it is [censored].

4. go online, and purchase Wenol aluminum polish. this is the best swtuff i have ever used. buy the red and the blue packages (rough polish and fine polish). even cotton rags are too rough for those lips. this polish is non-abrasive

5. go to auto parts store or home depot, and purchase flannel polishing rags (they are yellow with red stitching).

6. bake for 1 hour at 275 degrees.

7. enjoy

LoL Dude How the hell am I gonna fit 20's in my oven??

Seriously though thanks for the advise. I usually use microfiber for all my polishing but do you think the flannel ones are better? Also could I have damaged the lip with the mothers polish? If so will the other polish bring it back?

i wouldn't say that you damaged the wheels. i've used mothers and will continue to. every other month or so i would polish my wheels like that just because. they didn't always need it though.

Re: iForged Nightmare, Advice Needed

I didnt think I had damaged them. I dont know whats going on I couldnt see going a month with only one polish. Once these things see rain it's all over they need to be polished no matter what. Simply washing them leaves them literally dirty. I mean even after polishing them there is still dirt on the lip. Could I have gotten a crap wheel from Iforged? I will try that other polish but still I dont want to/can't be polishing these things once a week.

It just seems weird to me cause I would have thought that if upkeep were this bad I would havve know about it prior to getting them. Not only that but these aren't my first set of alum rims. I dont remember the last ones being this bad.

then again i really can't say because i don't drive my car in the rain much. but, when i did all i had to do was wash and go. i may have had to do alittle work. but, then again i would clean my wheels as soon as i got home if i did get caught in the rain.

i did not know iforged offered brushed aluminum lips? I took Chad's advice and got the wenol. It has a 3 step process, but so far it last longer then anything I've used so far.

I saw on TV (spike network, I think it was hot rod or something like that) that there is this aluminum polish/sealer that you apply and it lasts for a couple of years. it seals the aluminum so it won't occidise (sp?) and water just rolls off since it's so smooth. maybe someone else saw this and knows the name. I think they said that it is only sold direct from the manufacture.

Re: iForged Nightmare, Advice Needed

Ok made my purchase of the red, blue, and pink tubes. Lets hope they work. One other thought I had was that maybe because its so early after the snow season there is still a lot of salt on the roads and that is causeing some ofthe problems but I dont know I guess time will tell. Now I just need that polish to show up so I can get down and dirty on these things again. And here I was thinking I was all smart getting Black rims to avoind brake dust issues. Oh well live and learn then go buy a beater. Ha ha for the price I paid for rims and tires I could have went out and get a beater too!!

i'm not sure what to tell you about the rain and salt, man. i live in san diego where it rains about 5 times a year, and the only salt i see is on my french fries.

i'm not familiar with the microfiber towels, but i know the flannel ones work very well, so i would reccomend them. the nice thing about aluminum is that no matter how bad you scratch them or mess them up, they can usually be brought back to original.

Wenol comes with good directions, but start with the red, and end with the blue. i haven't used the pink yet, but it is just a sealer to go on after you are done. i started with mother's and it put a haze into the lips. those lips are so finely polished that anything with grit in it will leave marks. mother's is good for my pots and pans.

hope this helps you...i love the stuff!!

Change your brake pads. The stock pads dust way too much.

Re: iForged Nightmare, Advice Needed

i agree...i changed to the hawk hps pads and the dust went from 100% to 2%

seriously...it was essentially eliminated.

they do sqeak a tiny bit, however. you don't get something for nothing i guess.

Ill look into those pads, I assume they work with the brembos? The brake dust is also a factor so maybe that will help. Thanx for all your help guys.

EBC Greenstuf's work very well too; almost no dust from them.
