Re-Calibrate speedometer

Hey guys,
I went to the dealer today and spoke to their senior tech about recalibrating my speedometer once I get my new tires. As I've mentioned I want 275/35/20 tires on the rear instead of the 30 series and this size throws off the speedo by a little more that 3%. He said could be done with no problem. ($95)
I checked on this option because the tires I want ("super quiet" Falken Azenis) only comes in this size for the rear. Not to mention the thicker sidewall. I need as much protection as possible.

Has anybody else done this?? I haven't seen it mentioned thus far. Also, pls confirm that this 35 series will not INCREASE the gap in the wheel well. I'm not sure how that works. I welcome your comments fellas....

Thanks again,
Kim

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

a 275/35 will decrease the wheel gap but will increase more of a chance of rubbing I was reading somewhere on here that someone was running a 275/35 in the rear and the tires rub, I would serious think of looking into a different tire, a very good choice would be Bridgestone S0-3 and you can go with a 285/30 in the rear and a 245/35 in the front or go with Toyo T1-S but they only come in a 275/30 and 245/35

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

if you go 285/30 or a 275/30 you wont have to recalibrate speedo and save $95, like i said before down south the streets dont compare to up north, I drive my car everywhere and have no problems with comfort or curbing the wheels(as long as you keep alert of pot holes)

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

Kim,

Seems like your main concern is sidewall thickness.

285/30=3.37" sidewall
275/30=3.25" sidewall

That being said, 275/35 = 3.79" sidewall so you'll get around 0.5" thicker sidewall, which isn't that much. Plus you have to recalibrate your speedometer and spend more money. You won't rub with 275/35/20 unless you lower with springs.

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

Cut it Damen!! You know I've been trying to make the Falkens work for 2 months. Hey remember a woman always gets what she wants. (he-he)

Thanks Socal !!! That's exactly what I needed hear. Finally!!!My main thing is that I want those Falken tires. I don't care about spending the extra money to re-calibrate the speedo.
I won't be lowering....so they will be perfect.

I am a happy woman now. Woo Hoo!! I can sleep at night. (he-he)

G35_Diva,
Please let us know how it went after you have the recalibration performed by the dealer. I'd very curious as to how they actually did that. It would be nice to recal my speedo to the non-oem tires.

Thanks,

Clint (THX723)

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

THX723: Yes I will let you know. It appears to be a computerized thing. The dealer charges min $95/hr for labor. So this will be a minimum service. (actually less than an hr) Just waiting for the wheels to come in. (about 3-4 more weeks)

Nismo & Damen: I did a search for 275/35/20s and I found lots posts. Very, very good info. Too bad I didn't do that from the start. Actually, I thought I did. My bad....sorry. I still appreciate you guys taking to time to steer me right. (smile)

Yep, that search confirmed my decision. I will definitely be going with that set-up.

Thanks again!! ;-)

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

you won't change my mind because i don't want the rougher ride. i did the lowering thing with my old maxima and won't do it with the G sorry. the car looks fine with 20's at stock height. thanks anyway.

and Diva, just let us know how it all works out. i'm going with the wider 285 to help protect the side of that lip alittle better.

Re: Re-Calibrate speedometer

Nismo: You are tooo funny!!! I won't change my mind either. Shooooot, Damen was barely able to convince me to get the 20's. You know I don't want the ride to be any rougher or louder. (he-he) That's what all this talk has been about for me. Yes your car may look AWESOME, but talk to us after your tires wear out after 4000 miles. Actually I hope that doesn't happen, but odds are they will be affected.

Damen: My lips are always protected. I keep lipstick on them. Oh dang, sorry wrong lips. (he-he) If they had 285's I would get those, but they don't. So I am tickled lipstick pink with the 275's. ;-)
