Tire Pressure Monitor???

I'm going to put 20" rims on my coupe. What will happen to the tire pressure monitor? will it still work if I swap the 18" stock rims with 20" rims?

Thanks.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

you need to take the monitor from the 18's and put them on the 20's, have infiniti dealer do it, or it will break or void the warranty

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

Vic,
Grider35 is right...
The low tire pressure warning system monitors a signal sent from sensors installed in each wheel. The system won't function if you replacing the wheels or mount the spare.

Get the dealer to replace the tires and they will install the sensors and reset the system.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

the tires have already been mounted on the 20's.. I think I'll just leave the way it is.. Is it a good idea not to have the tire pressure monitor working properly?

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

They're nice to have but if you check them periodically with a good gauge then you don't need them. The 03 coupes don't have them. Without them, swapping rims seasonally is much less of a headache -- you can do it yourself if you want.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

The tire pressure monitor works with all four if one is out then it won't function. No biggie really just check your tires occasionally to insure proper inflation.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

thanks guys for the reply. If the tire pressure monitor is not functioning, will the tire pressure sign keep blinking all the time?

No, the TPS warning light wiill come on after you put the new wheels on but it will go away after you turn the car off/on again.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

I used to have a car with no air condition, no power steering, and no power brakes too.

My point is, you're driving one of the finest automobiles on the road! Don't make compromises, have the monitors installed back in. It's a great feature and it may save your wheels some day. You can't check the air pressure driving around while your wheel is losing air.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor???

Just a minor thing... If you drive the car for about 30 minutes, the TPS light will come on. It goes back off when you turn the car off and back on.
