ok guys so i got the wheels and im getting the tires in the next couple days. again, the wheels are 19x8.5. do you think with the suggested 245/40/19 that VDC will be ok?

 

Ok wow this thread moves fast. Back to my 19" Maya's...lol. Ok, so the wheel specs are 19x9.5 +32 and 19x10.5 +29. I'm now probably leaning towards buy new 20" inners and step lip outers and just converting them to step lip 20's.

I've never custom built wheels to a specific spec, so I just want to see if my math is correct. I'd like to keep the wheel widths the same, but since the Maya's typically have a really small lip up front, I'd like to make the lip a little larger. I think the front lip is like only 2" or so right now. But let's just say I were to keep the inner barrel the same width as they are now (but in 20's), and just ordered the outer step lip with say a 3" outer lip, it would in essence give me a 20x9.5 +7, right? This wouldn't affect brake clearance in any way right? I mean, right now at their current 19x9.5 +32 specs, they clear a BBK. Effectively lowering the offset wouldn't change that right? Or converting them to step lips either right? Thanks again for the valuable info.

 

I'm not the expert here, but I own 20" Maya's STM. Are they STM? I'm starting to get into building wheels. Mine are 10.5/11.5 +6(what I was told, havnt measured myself) and I think: medium disc a around(I need 8-10mm spacer to clear brembos) making my setup -6 upfront. I have 5" lips upfront and 5.5" rear with front fenders pulled quite a bit @ 3* camber and rears rolled flat with ~5*(my fitment still needs work.

My suggestion to you to keep your 9.5/10.5 setup would be for a functional aggressive look 4" front 5" rear lips with 5.5" inners all around with some 225/35 and 245/35- not completely sure the offset after this work is complete, just know my experience with maya stm.

 

They're actually a very sought after OEM lexus wheel...

$35 is a good price to mill down the centers, however. Make sure he is very precise or you had best stock up on Advil.

245/40/19 is the OEM tire size for G35 coupes.

Not quite. If you add lip size and keep the inner barrel the same as the existing size then the overall width will increase by the amount added via lip.

So in that case you'll be at 19x10.5 +20

The rebuild of lips and barrels will not affect brake clearance in any way, only the pad (face) can change that.

Out of curiosity where did you get the +7 offset on your initial math?

I thought by increasing the lip 1", it would effectively lower the offset by 25mm. So by adding a 1" larger lip, I would need to decrease the width of the inner barrel by 1" if I wanted to keep the 9.5" width, but still lower the offset and get a bigger outer lip?

 

No, 1 inch of width change is equal to 12mm of offset change.

So yes you'd need to kick down the inner barrel and increase the outer, however in doing that you WILL be changing the offset by a total of 25mm (front and rear lips takes offset from both sides)

 

should all 4 tires be 245/40/19?

 

From my re-search on this site, rears 255/40/19 by Michelin.

You may wish to read your manual for additional information.

 

not really necessary to go all the way up to a 255/40 with the rears....you'll be fine with 245/40 all the way around

Manual does not suggest 245/40 up front, but consult your local tire supplier/ Nissan or Infiniti dealership for further consultation.

The site told you to go with specifically a Michelin? What makes a 255/40 michy different than a 255/40 BFG?

Great advice... stick to your manual and be sure to consult your dealer, that will get us all so far when we try and run aftermarket parts!

 

i think it'll just be easier to get the same sized tires. what ive taken in is that 245/40/19 are good so i think thats what ill do! thanks for the help guys.
