Tire size question

Hi all,

I've done quite a bit of reading on tire sizes for the G and I'm slightly confused. Seems that people are saying to stay within 3% or you risk throwing off the VDC but some people are suggesting 245/35/19 tires for the 03-04 6MT which has a stock size of 225/45/18. According to the my calcs that's 4.1% smaller than stock so what gives?

Reason i'm asking is because i'm about to get some tires from discounttiredirect and i'm thinking of getting the FK-452's in 255/35/19 F and 275/35/19 R. I've seen a couple people now say that 255/40/19's might be a bit big-ish but at the same time I don't want to throw off the VDC if I get the smaller size (the 255/40's are closer to OE spec). I'd rather get the 255/35 if I can pull it off without screwing up the VDC.

These tires will be used on either a 19*9 F or 9.5" wide front (since 9.5" is the minimum for the deep concave 19's) and 19*10 R Forgestar F14. I don't really want the stretched tire look so i'm thinking the extra width from the 255 may be worth it to keep my options open on the fronts. Plus I hear the FK's run slightly smaller than some other tires out there.

Suggestions? Will I be okay with the 255/35/19 F and 275/35/19 R or should I go with 255/40/19's or 245/40/19's?

As long as the front and rear tires don't have more then a 3% difference, then you're good.

I see. I guess that makes sense then because there's about a 2% difference between the 255/35/19 and the 275/35/19 sizes. Correct?

This is an older thread, but it pertains to my questions. I too have an 04 coupe with the stock 18 inch wheels. 225/45 fronts, 245/45 rears. I will put on some wheels spec'd at 19x9 fronts, and 19x10 rears. It seems like the 275/35/19 will work well in the rear. But from the 1010tires site, it seems as thought the 255/35 up front is closer to spec when compared to the 245/35 fronts. Am I reading this improperly?

Also, if 255/35 are a better choice why does it seem the 245/35/19's are more popular? Is it because the 255's rub? I need to buy tires in the next few days so any advice would be welcomed. Also to the original poster....I don't think its 4%...I think its 0.4% which would be less that half a percent if I'm not mistaken.

Thank.

We've always sold one of the two combos in 19" to keep diameters correct and it's worked well.

245/35-19
275/35-19

or

255/35-19
285/35-19

I've seen others on the board use 255/35 and 275/35 with no issues.

I think most people get 245s up front because they are a more common size and hense a little more affordeable.
I'm currently running 255 35R19F & 275 35R19R with no probs.
I can't drop my car any lower because of my driveway so like how the 255s give me less wheel gap in the front.

Thanks for the info. Hey Neal, do you have any recommendations for an all season tire in 245/35/19 and 275/35/19 ? Where I live I need all season so its the best route for me.

Irish, do you have any problems with rubbing? I looked at your garage and your G looks nice That is plenty low for me. Did you have to roll the fenders or anything like that? Thanks.

I'm currently running 255/35/19 and 275/35/19 with no problems. I went with 255's because i'm running a 9.5" up front. If you're running a 9" wide wheel, the 245's would probably be a better choice.
