Is this what it looks like when clear coat peels?

So I'm trying to buy OEM 18" wheels from a buyer and he says this wheel is just clear coat peeling off. Is that true? I've never heard of clear coat peeling off the OEM wheels before.

If it isn't, what do you guys think it is?

THanks

I've never heard of that either. Kinda looks like they were painted over, and now the paints chipping off .

Unless he's selling them for cheap or you plan on getting them painted I'd keep looking.

The wheels have a shiny finish that once broken through goes like this. You will have to repaint these. No big issue.

Man, I thought I was the only one with the OEM chrome 7-spokes. I only ever see the brushed ones. Thats chrome chipping off tho, not paint. Paint aint gonna save those unless you wanna do a lot of prep and go with a completely different color. Those things look like crap BTW.

If you really want em and don't mind going to another color, just get a grinder and get rid of all that unevenness and cancer. Smooth it all out and paint them. Don't plastidip, man. That stuff will eventually pop thru again. You need to get rid of the unevenness, chipping and scraping.

Seriously members you're recommending anyone buy these "Bone Yard" wheels? Only way these wheels will ever look good, if you spend some heavy $$ and have them stripped and powder coated. If you have $100 per wheel go for it! I feel you're better off looking for '06 19" coupe wheels or G37 coupe wheels in mint condition on our Marketplace under private classified...Gary

Is there a problem restoring the original look? I happen to actually like OEM 18's.
