Oil Leak - NEED HELP IDENTIFYING A PART

Hey guys first off, Id just like to say HI! I am NEW G owner, and absolutely love it.

Just sold my Audi TT 225. nice little car. But The G is way better car than the TT. I also owned an s2000 and find these cars comparable in certain aspects. Love it anyway.

I got a great deal for a 2003 coupe with 210,000 km. Cost me 4000 Canadian dollars taxes in. Came with Stock 18 inch and good khumo tires, as well as ronal rims and blizzacks. Came with car cover, and various extra parts from previous owner. Also had full nissan maintenance history including regular oil changed, shocks springs, tranny flushed/changes, etc.

Prior to purchase i had it inspected. turned out it needed camshaft sensor (150), brakes eventually, and we identified an oil leak.

Now I have fixed everything except the oil leak. Attached is a picture of the location of the leak. It seems the previous owner attempted to fix the problem with some Defcon but oil is still blowing everywhere in the engine bay. I am not sure if i risk damaging other parts with so much oil everywhere but nonethless it nneeds taken care of. Here are pics of the leak. circled is the area where the oil is leaking.

CAN ANYONE IDENTIFY THIS PART SO I CAN START WITH REPLACING IT ?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I don't see a circled area. But where I see the puddie applied is the timing chain cover & to properly repair it would be to replace the whole cover.

Thanks guys! Looks like im going to need to look for a timing chain cover.

Yes the leak is coming from the puttied area. how the heck could have that happened in the first place?

The truth is the owner of the vehicle died, so i cannot find out any further information

Man, the weird **** people do to vehicles, anything could have happened. Imagine the most oddball thing you can think of and then try to think of something weirder than that; that's probably what happened.

If we think logically, he had a hammer and was trying to hammer something straight on top of the timing cover. Or maybe he was showing off his new bowling ball to his friends under his hood and dropped the ball. The world is fukced up sometimes, man.

Now that I look closer I can clearly see a crack from the puddie'd area to the bolt below it. I know from a (bad) personal experience they can easily be cracked. perhaps the previous owner took the cover off to replace the timing chain guides, water pump, etc . Created a hairline crack from trying to yank it off when not all the bolts were out which grew over time, over tightened the bolts, blunt force... who knows.

hahah the bowling ball. Must be something like that!

So the timing chain cover needs to be replaced? does anyone know the part number? the timing chain cover will cause oil leak i suppose? will it cause the car to run rough? as if the oil pressure is being affected? Is this an expensive job? is it possibly a task i can do myself?

If it's where the putty is that part is the variable valve timing cover if I remember. Those are held in by RTV/bolts and you can replace them separately I believe. If your whole cover is cracked then I think that's like 300 bucks. You'd need to drop the lower oil pan also to take it off. I did my water pump, chain, and tensioner not something I would want to do again!
