My local install shop (Boomer McLoud) told me over the phone that theydon't carry JL anymore because they didn't like them, and suggested Memphis for my amplifier. They said that the Memphis amps were the biggest underground name out there, and they were winning all sorts of competitions. Can anyone give any credibility to his story? Thanks.

 

I've heard great things about them from my buddy who has been competing in car audio competitions for years. I haven't talked to him for a while (hes in school now) but I also remember him mentioning Mcintosh as being realllllly good but really expensive. Hope this helps.

Memphis makes very good subwoofer amplifiers (class D). I was thinking about running them when i was competing in IASCA but decided to go with another amp simply because I was looking for a different footprint. I'm not completely sure about Memphis winning all sorts of trophies and things, but they are very good amplifiers and most people don't know about them. Now, whether or not it is a good amplifier for mids and highs I can't say with 100% confidence, but if they're anything like the class D amps they make, you're in good shape. In any case, if you're not sure about Memphis or any brand, just go to a different installer or try to order them from elsewhere. You don't wanna get caught telling yourself shoud'ves and could'ves.

i had a memphis class d and blew it up, but the i got a memphis high current amp. that amp was a great amp. i had it running at a 1/4 ohm at one point with out a problem. i hated to sell that amp, o well. it was great while i had it. i would def get another hc if the oppertunity arrises.

Great amps. We carry the Memphis line and are very happy with it. Great warranty (3yr vs. 1yr on most) and they last. Its a new name so we built our salesman's car with all memphis and it sounds awsome. If you are in So Cal you can stap by to hear it.

Fom reading a lot of speaker posts here, I think I'm going to let the BOSE stock amp drive the 6x9 deck and 6.5 rears, and get a 3 channel Memphis to drive a set of MB Quart Q series comps for the front and a removable 10" sealed sub in the trunk. That way I can have the trunk when I need it and the kick when I want it. =) How does this sound to everyone?

 

I had a Memphis Amp driving 3 Memphis 10s in my old Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was awesome. You will like the sound of the Memphis.

 

Hey, live in so cal. One of the local shops offerd to sell me a Menphis 4 channel amp for $200. I wasnt sure about em but he said they were great. Anyway, what shop are you at? I might have to make the time to come hear and see what you have. Also, while im here im trying to decide between Focal and MB quart speakers. Anyone have any opinions on the two?

My shop is in Mission Viejo. The link is www.carsoundadvice.com. As far as speakers, Memphis does make some great speakers but they are alittle bright so I suggest you have some bass. My personal favorite speakers are the JL Audio XR series. The tweeters in the seperates are not as harsh or screachy as the MB Quarts.
