I don't know if you already purchased the 8400, but my experience over the last few weeks has been that in only use it in app mode. I use pandora for music and Waze for navigation. If your use is like mine the appradio2 may be a better choice. It has a higher resolution screen with a better touch technology. There is nothing wrong with the P8400, i just feel the screen is dull due to it's matte finish. Just food for thought as the app radio come with an iphone cable and gps antenna. Either would be an excellent choice (based on how i use it), and since you are running an external amp the 4V pre-amp outs on the P8400 may make it a better unit for you. Just my 0.02.

I installed my Pioneet Avic U310BT using the PAC ROEM-NIS2
When I have the volume at 0, there is static coming from the speakers
How do I fix this
(I have tried installing with the 70-7550 - It had static)))
((I have tried installing with the 70-7551 - It did not have static, but it was not loud enough - comfortable to listen to at max volume))
Could this simply be a problem with my head unit? What could be causing the static?
Thanks!

The 4400 has better iP5 compatibility and most of the same capability, but the next-gen of headunits that should have better iP5 compatibility probably won't be announced until CES 2013, and not available until mid-2013. With the 8400 being their flagship unit, it should be updated via firmware to fully support it in the future.

I'm no audiophile, but I bought this fosgate 5 channel for under $200. I have yet to install it, so I don't have a personal review. We'll see!

TL;DR: The new generation looks slower than the previous generation. The 8400 still has features not available in the 5500, so if you're after detachable face or dual-zone control, it's still good, but I'd take the avh-p4400bh over the avh-x5500bhs.
I think the 4400BH was just too good for its own good, since the 4500 lost satellite radio capability (seriously?) and the HD radio tuner, so the 5500 is really the successor to the 4400, while the 4500 is stupidly gimped and priced $50 less than the 5500. The 4500 (and 2500 coming close) looks like the worst deal in the new lineup. I am glad to see the higher-resolution screen is coming in on all models though. No successor to the 8400 though, so you'll have to buy one of those if you were after the detachable faceplate and dual-zone entertainment options.
5500 looks to be about the 4400 with the higher-resolution screen of the 8400. The interface from this video looks slow and choppy compared to the 8400. I count 6 seconds from pressing Pandora on the 5500 and music playing, compared to 3 seconds on the 8400, and station list being virtually instant on the 8400 compared to about 5 sec or so on the 5500. It seems a ton slower than the 4400 as well, so I don't know if that higher-resolution screen has anything to do with it, or if the #500 series of units have something else going on that's making it much slower than the previous generation. I posted the video of the 3500, it seems this new generation is all-around choppier than the previous generation. I'm going to assess that the reason there's no 8500 is that the 8400 had by far the worst iPhone5 compatibility, so they'll hold off on that until it's fixed. I'm *really* surprised Pioneer released this new generation this early and without full iPhone5 compatibility.
I'm also a bit confused on the naming convention being used... for Pioneer, it's xy00zzz (like 4400BH) where x is the "trim level" and y is the generation, and zzz are the features on it, BHS is bluetooth, hd radio, sirius . I have no idea what the X on this model # is denoting, as previously the X units (X910, X920, X930...) were navigation units just below their flagship navigation units Z110, Z120, Z130... with a few features removed or just the smaller screens, while the P units P4400BH, P3400BH were absent any navigation without add-ons. Seems more like they're trying to confuse people by slapping the new screen in old units and shuffling a few features around.
On a side note, the AppRadio Hackathon stuff has me a bit more interested in that unit over anything else they have.
