Alpine ALPIVANAV1P1

Hey Fellas,

I have a bose system in my 03 G coupe and thinking of upgrading the head unit to a double din. I found this in our local 6ave store and it's only selling for $398, I can't believe it and could not find more information/reviews about it. The sales person is saying that it is a 6ave exclusive unit and etc... Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

A few issues with it:

It's definitely not a 6ave exclusive:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...IVA-NAV-1.html

Reviews of the navigation unit that comes it are pretty poor.
1.3 Million Points of Interest - Most units are 10x that many... hopefully those are gas stations and restaurants, otherwise that navigation is pretty much worthless.

If you've only got about $400 to spend, spend $325 on the Pioneer 3200DVD and a cheap Garmin. You'll have a much, much better headunit and much, much better navigation. If you need the bluetooth, just get the 3200BT for $400 instead.

The screen clarity of the alpine looks horrible:

Compared to the Pioneer 3200DVD:

Honest opinion here is that the unit is made to sell to people who think they're getting a $1200 unit for $400, instead they're getting a $400 unit for $400.

Thanks Wrathernaut for the reply. Makes sense but I don't really care about navigation, I just want to upgrade it so I can hook up my iphone, and it looked like it's only good for ipod. Anyway, I saw the Pioneer 3200DVD and looks good but I was looking for a 7" screen unit. Do you guys have any suggestions on a budget $500-$800+-? Thanks!

I've got both a 6.1 and a 7 inch screen one in each of my G35s. Trust me, you won't notice the difference, plus if you've got an automatic, the flip-face of a 7" screen will hit the shifter if you're in park.

If your budget goes to $800 in the headunit, there's nothing out there that can compete with the Pioneer $660 x920bt:

Even if you ignore the fact that it has solid navigation, this is the unit you want for iPhone usage. Nothing else does the Pandora link like this one, and nothing comes close to the rest of the iPod interface.

Hey man, thank you so much. You helped me realize what to look for in a head unit. I saw the one you suggested, but I also found the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT,
Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT, I know that the Z120BT is a newer model but why is it that it is priced lower than the Z110BT?

Anyway, It's a little bit over budget but I am willing to save/wait to get these if they are worth for it. Btw, my car is manual so I shouldn't have to worry about the head unit's flip face right? I noticed that you are linking to sonicelectronix.com, do you recommend this seller? Thanks man! You helped me a lot.

Z120 is the same hardware as the Z110, the difference is only software.

As for the price difference, I can only assume it's because Pioneer's giving really good deals to retailers to push the new model, or they just haven't updated pricing. Calling sonicelectronix directly and asking if you can get a Z110 for a substantial discount from the Z120 might work, just remember the software/maps update to bring a Z110 to the Z120 is about $150 or so on amazon... www.avic411.com has some great info you need to check out before choosing the Z110 or Z120 if the Z110 can be had for any bit cheaper.

I'm looking into buying a P3200DVD and I was wondering if you think it would have any fitment issues. I'd like it to be as flush as possible but I'm going to install it myself and I don't have much access to plastic and cutting. Is there someplace I could buy a ring that goes in front of the unit to cover any gaps for the JDM kit?

No fitment issues, lots of people on this board are using them, it's a great headunit.

My sticky'd shopping list has the trim ring you're looking for - or search amazon for "scosche ddtrb".

Drilling your own holes in the stock bracket is an easy way to make it as flush, recessed, or protruding as you want.

I'm just going to throw this out there for everyone, but Amazon is having a sale for 30% off of select Pioneer products. I bought the P3200DVD for $248 +shipping. Make sure you buy from Amazon and not a different vendor selling on Amazon and just enter the coupon code: QBRW8JOL.

Probably. I just got the email yesterday because I bought the PAC SWI and Amazon likes to give you deals on related stuff. It was kind of weird though, the email had one promo code and the P3200DVD page had a completely different code: VRCBKCX6.
