Pioneer AVH-P8400BH

Edit: If you found this post by search cause you're researching the AVH-P8400BH, here's some of the useful stuff from this thread so you don't have to read everything just to see your question wasn't answered.

- The Pioneer trim piece that comes with the unit will leave a gap at the bottom of the unit. Buy the
Skosche Universal Trim Ring Skosche Universal Trim Ring
.
- You'll still need to trim the outer edges to fit your JDM/Metra trim, but the deck fits snugly through the hole. There are photos of this on p.3.
- The 8400 is compatible with both iPhone and Android technology. The iPhone requires the use of the CD-IU201S for full App Radio integration and Android phones require a Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) or a micro HDMI connection. (Link)
- Also for G's equipped with factory bluetooth, you may need to install the Pioneer-provided cell mic for phone calls. I couldn't figure out how to keep the factory cell mic, but if you do please share!
- Don't worry about the motorized faceplate clearing the gap. If you just use the holes from the factory harness you'll be fine - no modification necessary. IE., too far back vs. flush vs. too far forward etc. From post #47:
- If you're installing on a G with factory bluetooth you will lose the steering wheel cell phone controls unless you do this:

There's the large harness going into the telephone adapter in the trunk. In the very center are a green and red wire with a yellow right next to them. There is also green and red and yellow wires just to the side of the center. Connect the red to the red and the green to the green and yellow to yellow.

That's it.

- If you're planning on using the Bosch relay method to override the parking brake, it will not work the same with this deck. This should only be done for passenger viewing. If you use the Bosche relay, the only way to get it to work is to start the unit, select the video viewing mode of your choice, and restart it. This will trigger the relay corruptly for the unit. If you don't like this you can purchase
this this
, and you'll be able to use any video mode by tapping through the messages that appear; no restart necessary.

- Here's a word of advice regarding bluetooth audio/Pandora from Pioneer's Facebook Page:
Here's a Tech Tip for those of you who may have the following question with our new 2012 DVD Receivers:

Why am I not receiving iPod or Pandora audio from my iPhone on my 2012 DVD receiver?
When using an iPhone with the 2012 Pioneer DVD Receiver models that feature built-in Bluetooth, the iPhone will prioritize the last connected source for audio output. For example, if the iPhone is plugged into the Pioneer iPod cable (CD-IU51V, CD-IU201V or CD-IU201S, varies by model) before the Bluetooth pairing process is complete, any audio from the iPhone (Music/iPod, Pandora, etc.) will be transmitted through the Bluetooth Audio connection. This will result in having control of your music on the headunit but no audio output. If the Bluetooth pairing process is completed before the iPhone is plugged in, audio from the iPhone will be transmitted over the dock connection cable.

Tip:
To ensure seamless operation of Music/iPod and Pandora audio playback through the dock connection cable, we recommend allowing the Bluetooth connection to complete the pairing process BEFORE you connect your phone to the Pioneer iPod cable. This allows the Pioneer DVD Receiver to completely control switching between music sources without any additional iPhone settings changes needed by the user.

If you want to switch back and forth between the BT connection and the dock connection, you need to choose the audio source from the Music/iPod screen on the iPhone.

Begin original post:

Been looking at decks for a while now and I think I finally found the one that best fits my desires and price range, the Pioneer AVH-P8400BH.

Crutchfield has it available for pre-order only right now but I was wondering if anyone's had any experience with this unit yet- it seems like it hasn't quite been released?

Word to your moms.

Edit: They decreased the price between the 4400 and 8400, so the 8400's a better purchase now, especially if you want a detachable face.

You're right Wrathenaut I could care less about the dual-zone video, but does the 4400 have the navigation like the 8400? All I can tell from crutchfield is that it is compatible with that $399 add on. Which makes no sense to me.

The 8400 is compatible with the same add-on that the 4400 is. The 8400 doesn't have navigation built-in.

Yep, you're right. So it's pretty much a different display for $150? What's your take on this?

I played with one of those sony's once. I couldn't get past the horribly slow interface, and the navigation is also pretty poor, definitely not worth another $150. I'd easily take the 4400 and get a garmin to go with it over that one. Plus, HD Radio's awesome wherever you can get signals.

No only the 8400 has removable screen.

Also the interface is different I personally think its cleaner and the resolution is much nicer compared to the 4400.

I have pre-ordered the 8400 from crutchfield hopefully it comes out soon I read 15h march its only 650$ so its not that big of a price difference.

I am also which of the two I should get. 4400 is now only 430, is it really worth it to get the 8400 for another two bills? Really, the only thing that I like more about the 8400 is the fact that the faceplate is detachable and AUX in front and rear.

It's probably a personal choice, I like the 8400 over the 4400 because it is advanced app ready (I have iphone4s and use it everyday in the car) the screen resolution, the mixtrax seems cool but will get old as you need to install software on your computer to take advantage of it (from what I have read) did you check the compare on pioneers site.

8400 Has better resolution, dual USB input, SD slot, Dual zone audio, and the detachable face. I do understand personal choice and you should pick what you think you will want.

Here is the compare @ Pioneer.

At this point I've settled with the 8400. I like the display better, I like the detachable faceplate, and the Advanced App thing seems interesting enough to me. I'm not too excited about MixTrax cause I don't have too much music on my iPhone and I'm pretty sure I'll always be listening to Pandora or music videos. I just hope it gets released soon.. I'm ready to install.

So Wathernaut, which should I use - PAC SWI-PS for Pioneer X920BT, Z110BT, Z120BT or Z130BT or the Metra Axxess ASWC for ALL others?

The compare doesn't work I tried it yesterday

But I think you made a good choice with 8400... I'll let you know once I hear about mine being shipped.

Im using the Sony XNV-770bt right now.

After the firmware update and free Tomtom map updates, the unit is a great buy at the price.

The only delay I get is when I use my ipod with around 8000 songs. I guess it has trouble reading that many files...im not sure. My wifes ipod with around 200 songs reads perfect with no lag.

I use my phone over bluetooth for most of my audio. The sound is really good and there is no droping of signal.
