full stereo setup help

soo my cd player crapped out on me, and ive been wanting to replace it for a wile with the pioneer avh-8400. but ive been contemplating wether i should just re do the whole system without bose and get aftermarket amps, speakers and sub. so ive been wondering what ppl are doing as to if they are using all six speakers (front doors, rear and deck) and sub, or just 4 speakers and sub.

Just replace the front 2 speakers, don't put anything in the rear but a sub.

Front soundstage is how you should experience music. Music is not a movie with surround effects and things happening behind you, leave that for theaters. Put the "band" in front of you where it belongs.

I started out thinking I was going to replace all 6 speakers and add a sub, but I just finished replacing my door components and now I realize the only other thing I need to add is my sub. Which surprised me.

If anything start at the font and if you still want to you can always continue replacing toward the rear of the car.

Regarding the 8400, make sure you check out the thread here on driver. I've been very happy with mine so far.

Don't put anything in the rear deck - it's a good place to let some of the bass from a sub pass through to the cabin, and it's a flimsy mounting location anyway. Anything with decent power will just rattle on there.

Depending on the components you get, you won't even know the 6x9's are missing. Besides you don't want them junking up the sound of your new stuff anyhow.

The 8400 cost $699 shipped from Crutchfield.com and the Clarus C61-2's were $450 from a local shop. But they list at $689, so I'm sure you could get someone to come down from there.

im about to buy the 8400 and im thinkin of doin the ampbypass and run the speakers from just the HU until i replace speakers and amp. so i dont have to buy the roem and just use the 7550, is this a good idea or bad idea?

It's a fine idea, but you'll only have 4 channels to work with. Use the 7550, to send the speaker-level output to the trunk and bypass at the amp to run your front speakers and the rear 6x9s (or rear door speakers in the sedan) for the time being. Also connect up the 3 pair of RCAs for the line-level outputs on the radio and run them to the trunk so you won't have to remove the radio to get to them once you're ready for the new amp & speakers.
