Backup Cam - Which Wire to Use Cam Anytime?

So today is finally the day I start to tackle installing the backup cam and Pioneer 4500NEX double din. I believe this Pioneer unit has a function to flip to the cam whenever I want. But as far as hooking it up, I have an 04 coupe so I believe I can use a T connection tap to tap into the purple and white wire that run along the back of the trunk by the tail light but that will only power the cam when the car is in reverse. Does anyone know which wire in the bundle will allow me to flip to the cam while driving (I do have a bike rack I use from time to time and think it would be nice to switch to the cam anytime, anyway) Just not sure which wire to tap into. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance...

Hmm...not sure if any of those wires has constant power in them when the car is on.

What I did is use the remote wire which powers my subwoofer amplifier in my trunk. So if u have a sub in your trunk u can do that.

If not, then ur gonna have to find a wire which powers up with your head unit or when the car is on. Did your car originally have the Bose sound system? U can use those wires if it did.

Thanks! Yeah, it does have the bose sound system. Any idea where I can locate those wires in the car? I assume one is on a harness by the head unit but in the trunk? is that down under by the spare?

I ordered a meter tester that will be here tomorrow. Does it matter what I tap into? or it just any wire that has power when the accessories/ car is on? I don't want to short anything or worse. Never did a radio swap or cam install before so I am siding on caution on this.

Your Bose system amplifier is located inside the trunk....lower left corner by the spare tire. It has a plastic cover over it which is held on by 2 nuts I think.

In the harness to the amplifier, you will find a light blue colored wire. That is the remote wire and will supply 12v power. Im not sure if it s powered on when you start the car, or when u turn on the stereo. U can check tour multimeter to confirm.

Are u gonna be bypassing the Bose amplifier when u install your new stereo. I know most aftermarket stereos arent compatible with the OEM Bose amp.

Awesome. Thanks!!! I will check it out tomorrow once the meter arrives and see what the deal is with the power. First I have to pop out the backseat and side panel back their to run the cam wire up through the door jam. Man, what a project! hahaa.. Just glad it's summer and the weather is nice..

No, not bypassing the bose. I got the kit to keep the bose, the steering wheel kit and they even make a motion bypass kit, (hopefully it works with carplay and carplays apps, youtube, etc)

For anyone's reference and if still needed by OP, I think the orange wire in that loom is your backup light wire. Easy to confirm, just pop the panel off the trunk lid like changing the reverse tail light bulb and see what color the wire is there. This was the case for my 04 sedan.

Hey... for me it is the purple one. I took the meter to it and works like a charm. The purple throws about 10.7V when in reverse. I have a coupe. For the sedans it is orange from what I have read and as you said as well.

By the way, for everyone these wires run up along the back of the trunk. Use a tap connector and you are done in 3 seconds. I see people ripping apart the tops of trunks, etc. Craziness. Just tap in as this runs up against the back wall of the trunk between the tail lights. Another note, for me and I assume this is the way head units are going to be in the future... I tapped into the purple and believe I can pull up the cam anytime I want on the touch screen. I have the Pioneer 4500NEX. I will know for sure later this week as I am yet to tackle installing the head unit but I believe this is the way the head unit works. When going in reverse the cam comes up but any other time I want to view it, the option is on the touch screen.

Good to note for everyone's reference. My sedan was the orange wire for the reverse light and your coupe was purple.

My comment about tracing the wire back to the reverse light socket, it is easy to access like you are changing the bulb and it gives you a double check when you can visually verify you are tapping the same wire. It really took very little disassembly to install my Garmin GPS backup camera.

And T taps are a must! It takes a red one for 18-22 ga wire size for other's reference.
