Since we revived this thread...Where are you guys grounding the HU? Through the harness, or on the chasis? I grounded it to part of the chasis on the drivers side. Is there a better spot that I didn't see?

How is the glare when driving in direct sunlight? I currently have a Xenarc screen and it is horrible/unreadable. Thanks

Hey, Im sorry cause I know all these questions have been answered before, but 17 pages of info is overwhelming so I think it would be best to just restate the question.

Im looking into getting a G35 as my first car, Auto trans with likely no built in NAV. I have some questions though about this system

1. How much will this cost me after everything is purchased?
2. Can this be done by someone with no knowledge of any of this.
3. Will I have to change my speakers around or purchase new ones, and if so, what could you recommend that is a easy install? I do want to upgrade my speakers, but I dont know where to start/look.
4. Will this Z1 be compatible with the iPhone, because im likely getting it.
5. Would it be wise to have a shop do this?

I also been looking into getting this unit too and have compile a list of parts.
G35 Double Din Conversion Project

1. List of Parts (not everything but most of the major stuff)

Pioneer AVIC-Z2 (est. $1800)
*the unit come with a mic but might want to look into a better noise cancelling mic --> maybe this one Andrea DA-350

Pioneer ND-BT1 Bluetooth Adapter (est. $120)

Pioneer GEX-P10XMT XM NavTraffic Unit (est. $200) *will also need to subscribe to $16/monthly for XM NavTraffic Services

Rearview Backup Camera (est. $160)

PAC SWI-PS – Steering Wheel Interface (est. $70) this will retain usage of the steering wheel buttons

Wire Harness for Headunit (est. $25)

Soldering Pen (est. 20) *only if you want to do it right

Electric Tape (est. $3)

Double Din Finisher (est. $90)

Double Din Bracket (est. 50) *or use your stock one to save money

Double Din A/C Control Unit (est. $220)

CarDomain Panel Removal Tool (est. $5-10) *essential tool to ease the install but not necessary

2. It is possible and can be done -- it will just take you much longer because you will need to do you homework and research

3. I don't see why using your stock speakers would cause any problem. If you plan to upgrade your stock speakers anyway -- might as well do it all at once since you will be spending a great chunk of your cash already. LOL

4. The unit have bluetooth and the iPhone will too but as for compatibility wise -- no one can be sure until Apple release the iPhone.

5. Having the shop do it is a great alternative if you either don't want to deal with the hassle or don't have the time and simply don't want to risk it. Just make sure you have some kind of warranty and that it is a legit shop that will honor their work if future problem does occurs. And prepare to pay a mad additional of cash for "the labor". One last note -- no one love your car more than you -- so when the shop pry and rip apart your console/dash -- they won't be gentle -- they want to speed through it because they have other customer to take money from. heheh

Good Luck and hope this helps
