Adding an Aux Input AND keep Sat radio

I tried to do a search but for whatever reason no matter what I used for search terms it came back with nothing.

I am looking to add an aux input source onto the stock headunit without using the Sat button. I know there was another thread which contained an option for if you don't have the Sat button but I wasn't sure this same device could be used if you have the button but also HAVE Sat radio and want to keep it.

Here is the device referrenced in another thread http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundalns1.html. Does anyone know if this will work on a headunit that has the Sat button as well? I am asking for both the '04 and the '05 as we have one of each. Any info or a point in a general direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

That should do it.

The 05 might need a Soundgate AUX3 harrdwired inbetween the SAT audio lines and the HU.

Ok in reading more about this thing I have a question - what do I hook it up to? I am sure that seems like a stupid question but I know very, very little about car audio stuff. Let's use the '04 for an example - I have the in-dash CD changer already so I am not going to be connecting one to the stereo. I have the Sat button BUT I want to put in the factory XM radio soon (hoping for that for Christmas ). How is this adapter going to connect without my having to give up some of the functionality I already have?

Just consider me the dumb blonde when it comes to car audio and explain accordingly, please.

PAC Accessories will release the cousin to the AAI-NIS if you want to wait. It will allow you to have SAT and an AUX input. Should be within a month or so.

I was going to explain it before you made the dumb blonde comment (which I found irritating - car audio ignorance is NOT gender-based. Trust me.)

If you have SAT radio, you have an audio signal coming into an input on the back of the radio, AND that input is being enabled by the HU because it "sees" the OEM SAT receiver at the other end and allows it to work. If you unplug the SAT radio, the input stops working. The PAC device "emulates" the SAT receiver and fools it into enabling the input even though there's no SAT receiver present.

The Soundgate device I sent you is indeed the wrong one for you IF you want to keep OEM SAT radio AND add more sources. My bad, sorry.

What you need to do is hard-wire a Soundgate AUX3 into the audio wires from the OEM SAT receiver. Then the AUX3 can switch from OEM SAT radio, to aux source I, to aux source II (using the included switch, which I would put inside the center console). The OEM SAT audio will run through the AUX 3 switcher.

It will require some wiring diagnosis on the diagram finding the SAT radio audio leads, and cutting a 3' stereo RCA cable in half and using it for wiring into the OEM wires. But we've done it on many cars with either SAT radio or external changers that lacked a device to provide an AUX input.

Actually I am not sure that is going to accomplish what you need. I am not aware of anything out there that will easily do what you want, but I could be wrong. I wanted to do the same as you last year and I already have the factory SAT. But in the long run I ended up giving up the factory sat to get aux inputs. I use the aux inputs for my IPOD and for my DVD player. I figured I would use these 2 a lot more than using the SAT radio. I did a lot of research and I know someone came up with a way to wire the Aux input into the back side of the SAT receiver which is in the trunk, but I didn't want to go that far into it. I hope you do find something. I will watch this post to see. Good luck.

I did not mean to offend. I was simply stating the level of my said ignorance in what is, in today's pop culture, an easily recognized term.

I am sure it is by no means gender-based in who is unaware when it comes to car audio. I should have said it differently since I get upset when people assume that I can't know **** about a car because I am female.

This sounds quite promising. It does however lead me to yet more questions.

1)Are you still able to use the headunit buttons for the SAT radio operation?

2)If not, how would you control the OEM SAT unit (channels, etc)?

3)Have you personally done an install of this nature? Would you be willing to chat with someone who would be local for me regarding how it was done, if needed?

Sorry I've been gone, my home PC power supply smoked. Hard to stay current at work.

I've done this on several cars, Acuras, Volvos, but not Infinitis yet. BUt the principle - interrupting the audio lines into the HU and replacing the SAT audio with your new audio - is sound.

You would select SAT and then throw another switch for your new AUX source.

The AUX3 comes with a nice switch, and works with balanced signals lile OEM sat receivers.

Cool. I am having my SAT radio (XM) installed today. After Christmas I can start trying to see what I can do to hook up my MP3 player, etc. I forget how much freaking money Christmas always costs me. I'll send you a PM or touch base when I get closer to a final solution.

THANKS!!!
