This. Sand it first so it'll be smooth again first.

Do i have to re-sand the whole thing, primer, paint e.t.c.? Or can I just start painting all over it just like that then clear coat again?
Depends how bad the chips are you can probably just scuff it up a bunch and prime/paint/clear but you may be able to see the chips.

You may have to do a good job sanding depending on the chips, post a pic and maybe someone can chime in on what prep work would be best for you!

I bought my car ignorant of what Desert Platinum looked like. The dealer said it was more of a gold color, but that was a poor description. If I had to do it all over again, I'd seriously consider DP. Nice job on the grille, but the glossy/piano black look is hard to maintain. Sun, dirt, rain, ... well pretty much everything outside will make it look dull over time. That's one huge advantage of the satin finish you get with Duplicolor Bumper paint.

That's weird... When I was looking for a G, I was looking for the Graphite. Then I saw this one and the rest was history... 1 owner (single), low miles, interior looks like new to this day...

Yea... I planned on doing the satin look, but the wrong cap was on the can... Sooooo, long story short and didn't want to go back out, I went with it...

Question for the OP or anyone else that can answer...isn't the duplicolor clear coat a lacquer based clears coat for going over lacquer touch up paints? I always thought you can't apply lacquers over enamels. Tried this on a test piece once and the clear coat rippled and looked like it had a leather grain to it.

Duplicolor wheel coat is an enamel paint and I think they say to use the wheel coat clear with it only for this very reason.

Thinking of doing thi DIY too but I may just do semi gloss without clear. Any thoughts?

im going to do this with gloss black. For you guys doing gloss black did any of you wet sand between coats? or wet sand after clearing or buffing or anything like that? or are you just sanding spraying a few coats of primer then spraying a few coats of paint then spraying and few coats of clear and done.
