seems like alot of work and easy to mess up, I'm going to ask a local body shop if they can do this for me and if not I guess I'll have to give it my best shot.

Has anyone tried a nice black/bronze grill? Or did majority of the people do a flat black grill? I'm debating whether or not to paint it flat black or try to work my way to make a black/bronze grill.

i don't know of anyone who has done black/bronze, but you can get a nice black chrome look if you do a light (and I mean light) dust coat of killer chrome over gloss black.

^ go to www.alsacorp.com and look at the product called killer chrome.

to get a good finish, spray the grill gloss black, clear coat it, and let it cure overnight. after 24 hours, give it a few dust coats of killer chrome, wipe off the excess coating, and let it sit for an hour. you can then give it another few coats of clear.

you'll get the best results if you get the grill as smooth as possible and don't use too much killer chrome. also, apply the killer chrome in the day time so you can see whether you're applying too much.

I'm just finishing up this project and wanted to say thanks for the DIY info. I had to rush it a little since this is my daily and 50 degree weather doesn't help either so it could have come out better IMO. I think I'll do the valve covers this wknd.

I think I'm going to ask a local shop to paint my grill black chrome or a little darker than the stock silver and see if I like how it looks on my DG, what do you guys think?

Should look pretty good. Post up some pix if you go that route...most people have painted their grills silver or black so it'll be cool to see how another finish turn out.
