G35 Compression Rods are Total Crap

I removed the compression rod from the noisy side. The joint moves all around by hand, but I don't hear any noise. I'm guessing the bushing looks alright?

The lower ball joint nut is rusted on the ball joint bolt. So when I try to loosen the nut it turns the bolt as well. I don't know how to get it off!!!

Well, it seems my car as this problem. When driving into driveways the front end makes a sound very similar to the ABS testing sound, as well as if I come to a stop and put my car in park on a slight incline you can hear the noise as well. I guess this is the problem everyone else is having. Once my Axle ticking gets worse I'll bring it in for repair.

Is this mostly happening to only sedans? The day I lowered my coupe on tein basics, there was no noise till 300 miles later. Sounds like a small thump only on slow driving through rough roads n alleys according to bumps

Does the creaking noise happen over bumps or when coming to a stop? When I brake semi-hard and my car's front suspension is loading, I can hear the creaking and when the suspension rebounds, I also hear a creaking noise. Are these the symptoms?

Is this problem related to time, mileage, and how it's driven or any combination there of? The reason that I ask is that I have an 06 sedan that I purchased at the end of the year in 2006 and now have only 17,000 miles on it. While I still have more than a year left on my 48/60K warranty, not sure if I'll put any significant miles before the basic warranty expires.

Guess the same thing can be said about the rocking back and forth of the driver seat and the spark plug coilover covers.

If this noise is what I hear on our G, it's been doing it since new. I notice it in cold weather going over bumps... like the end of the driveway. I'm waiting until the end of the warranty to get them replaced.

Mine started with the squeak - I didn't really care about that. It has now turned into a clunk and the dealer says it's the compression rods. He want $1,200 just for parts. I'm in Victoria BC. I think I'll give Riverside the order on this one.

just order the bushings and have them pressed in... lots cheaper.

OK, I replaced the compression rods today. They came without the cone (as I had requested) but I bought a pulley puller and yanked the old ones off myself. All of the front-end clunking is GONE! It cost under $400 Cdn. I don't know how the dealer can keep a straight face when they give you a ridiculous quote like that. The first one took me a bit longer because of the problem getting the cone off, but I got the second one installed in less than 5 minutes (including getting the cone off). When you take the end with the ball off, it can be tricky to unscrew the nut because there is nothing holding the bolt steady. I used an impact wrench and it popped off nicely.

For those that have replaced their bushings, some quick questions:

1) Has anyone had to replace them a 2nd time? Y/N

2) Is there a newer/better material out there (e.g., polyurethane) for the bushings or are we stuck with the rubber ones? Y/N

3) If you replace the bushings, is it a good idea to also replace the rubber boot on the other end while you're in there? Y/N

4) Someone suggested simply tightening the nut at the bottom end of the Rod, beneath the bushing, as a solution-- is this a realistic solution? Y/N

Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

It turns out that my bushing had gone bad on the wheel end of my compression rod. Unfortunately I special ordered the bushing and am unable to return it and have no use for it.
