They did not perform an alignment when they changed my rod. I asked about it and they said it wasn't necessary.

I notice no problems at all.

And i noticed the most amount of noise coming out of driveways. Over bumps it was silent, but come down an off-camber slope and i would hear the rattle

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I am hearing the infamous noise on driveways, but I also feel and hear rumbling with cracks in the road. I might just need to get an alignment and new front tires!

I did hear it in cracks and over some bumps...mainly at low speeds. But over the normal pothole it was pretty silent.

I had to hit a bump just right t oget the noise when driving, but driveways were where it typically made noise.

compression rod noise

I did a search on this but don't have time to read all the pages! Quick question, can you hear the rod noise by pushing the car up and down from the fender? I had a buddy bounce it while I felt where the noise was coming from but was unable to pinpoint it because it traveled throughout the spring/shock assy to uca/lca's etc... Someone please help clarify this noise! It's coming from the drivers front, hearing clunking and a type of rubbing noise going up driveways and uneven roads. Similar to what many have posted, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I didn't hear it going up and down. I only heard it when the car rocked side to side like driving through off camber bumps

First post! Unfortunately not in any of the fun threads. Just got part 54570-AC70A from my local dealer. Special order, they didn't know anything about it. No returns and he couldn't even verify what exactly it was.

On the bright side it was the bushing for the compression rod. Then I went and checked and realized it was the bushing on the other side that was shot. Oh well, took a gamble and lost.

Now to find a compression rod on the cheap and see if anyone needs this part because I have no use for it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read somewhere in this thread that the bushing on the other side is not sold separately?

I have to replace my passenger side compression rod. With the update to the part, is it a good idea or necessary to change the driver side as well?

It's a safe assumption that it will go sometime as well but I was wondering if changing the one would affect handling, alignment, etc.

Will new compression rods give you an overall smoother ride? Or just stop the creaking and popping while entering a driveway? Because it feels like I have some rumbling up front while cruising at speeds.
Aaronhl,
Did you find out if changing the compression rods give you a smoother ride? My car is unbelieveable on the highway over 60...

Mine didn't change the ride at all...just quieter over certain types of off-camber bumps.

Dealer also only changed drivers side. No noticeable effects from changing just 1...just quieter

Drivers side compression rod - Sedan - NEW

Infiniti G35 Sedan 2003 - 2006 2WD

PT# 54469-AC70F (revised / updated unit)

$200 OBO - quick sale (Location: Brampton, Ontario - will ship for $20)

Reason for the sale and a short story of what I am going through.

I had clunking coming from my front passenger side as well as creaking when the car was over uneven pavement. I decided to replace both front compression rods + all 4 end links in hopes all issues would be resolved. After driving for a bit, and listening for every little noise I could - I noticed a slight clunk coming from the drivers side. I returned and had the job inspected, plus all other areas reviewed. I was told to get another compression rod and try that. I purchased another and replaced the other new one - and the noise is still there. I put back in my original (new) one that was just installed, and am selling the brand new one for much less then I paid - only because the dealer will not installed parts back.

I have the new one for sale - no km on it. (Also included is the cone sleeve cover)

^Are you still trying to find out what the noise is? Possibly ball joint? It seems tech's at Nissan and Infiniti say the compression rod noise is similar to a ball joint noise. When I went to both dealer's for a quick road test they assumed that either of the 2 was making the noise, without lifting it up of course. Either way let us know what you find out before people start replacing **** that ain't broke!

Yes - still trying to figure it out. The new compression rod on the passenger side solved my rattle / clunking. I never really noticed anything coming from the drivers side - but replaced the compression rod anyways. I then started to notice a small clunk when entering driveways over the bump. I was not sure what to do - and figured the new compression rod could have been faulty, so I purchased another, did the install and the sound was still there. I removed the new one, and put back in the other new one, and attempted a return - but the dealer will not take it back.

I will purchase ball joints - what is the pt# and do I need to get the entire lower control arm - or just the ball joints?

What else could the sound be?

Lets see if the 'Infiniti Master' can help us.

if you got the creak and you are in the bay area bring it to oakland and I can fix it in most cases for free. there are tsb's and special updated parts. in some cases the nut holding the rod on the knuckle side comes slightly loose causing the popping or clunking i see that one alot. the creaking in driveways and the like is usually the bushing which is available seperate from the rod as per the tsb. the parts department can not look up the part number though because its an "updated part". Normally this is covered in the 4/60k warranty, but some dealers arent too nice about it.

I had the 'clunking' on the passenger side. I replaced both sides anyways, as well as end links on all 4 corners. I now (maybe already had) a small clunk on the drivers side. I have no idea what it can be, I even grabbed a second driver side compression rod - in case the first replacement was defective - no difference.

What to do now? Everything else looks good. I have Eibachs on the sport (red) sedan shocks. OEM sport 17's with 235 50 17 tires.

What should I do now? I am in Canada - so coming to the Bay Area is out of the question
